KickBeat Announced For PlayStation Vita

Zen Studios, the development team best known for creating the Zen Pinball series, today announced KickBeat, a new rhythm title for PlayStation Vita.

KickBeat combines "beat-matching mechanics with an acrobatic style of martial arts, turning every song into a raucous battle." Players can also create their own tracks in the game using music from their digital library.

“Several years ago, we asked ourselves, 'What would happen if we took a beat-matching game,  replaced the abstract cues like bars, arrows, and button icons with kung fu fight scenes, and set it all to some incredibly intense music?'” said Neil Sorens, Creative Director for Zen Studios.

"We spent three years turning that idea into in KickBeat, and anyone looking for something fresh and exciting and the music genre is in for a treat."

The soundtrack includes several different musical artists, such as Pendulum, Marilyn Manson, and indie bands Celldweller and Blue Stahli. KickBeat is due out this summer. Check out the launch trailer and screenshots below!

  • That looks like a really great game and that bands in it are really awsome cant wait for it

  • Looks good

  • Sounds cool.

  • Wow...this is actually really cool. Can't wait to see more!

  • Now THAT'S a Vita game that should be and hopefully will be a must-buy for those who own one.
  • Thought I was going to get a laugh out of the trailer. To my surprise this game looks awesome.

  • I came here to just blindly bash this, but after the read and screenshots I may have changed my mind, hopefully a demo comes out. Most vita games have none.

  • A rhythm game with Celldweller AND Blue Stahli, wrapped up in the facade of a fighting game...

I may have to get a Vita...

  • Thank god the gameplay looks better than the story/voice acting. +1 for letting us use our own music, Zen Studios rocks

  • Looks amazing lets see how this turns out to be

  • Huh, interesting. I might actually play this.

  • This looks weird in a good way lol very unique idea looking forward too it(hopefully they release it on PSN as well)
  • So wait I can use my own songs?
  • Those characters look terrible; absolutely awful. The style is atrocious for the guy, and the girl -her head looks like it doesn't fit right on ANY of those bodies. Just look at the 3rd screenshot on the second row of Game Informer's Gallery there - is she possessed? Is that why her head is twisted so badly? Ugh. That being said, music and fighting is something that NOBODY has nailed before, yet these things should go together. Remember Def Jam ICON? Of course nobody does- it was a horrible game. BUT it had some noble ambition. What about Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style? A ton of fighting games have a rhythm to them when you "get in the zone" - someone HAS To nail this mixture eventually. Hopefully the ZEN guys can pull it off; but anyone can make a pinball game. This is the first game they've designed from scratch. Crossing my fingers it's okay.
  • An action dance game?
