The lights are on
Patent applications from Nintendo for a redesigned Wii U controller surfaced earlier this year, and now a picture of the actual controller has appeared online. The image was posted on a Twitter feed of a QA tester at TT Games, but has since been removed.
The biggest change from the old controller (pictured below) to the new controller are the control sticks instead of circle-pads. It also looks like there may be a few new buttons and logos here and there.
This does not necessarily represent the final design of the Wii U controller. We will likely find out more about whether or not the controller has received an update next month at E3.

I love the circle pad on my 3DS, but if this is true Nintendo definitely made the right decision for this controller, because circle pads aren't nearly as precise and easy to use as good, old-fashioned analog sticks. Good to see they're rethinking the controller, moving the sticks and + and - buttons to a decidedly less awkward place that is actually in reach during normal gameplay :D
Hopefully this is true, as despite how handheld platforms can make compromises like with the 3DS circle pad, a big full-fledged console would feel odd without a proper set of analogue sticks.
WiiNer anyone?
I think they could do more to improve this controller
wii u wiiu the cops are coming
Aweful
The controller looks clunky, but probably functions better than it looks just based on what I've seen so far. I'm more concerned with, yes, the graphics and how powerful the system will be compared to older generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PS3. First it's like, "Yeah, the Wii U is 50% more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3," then some "anonymous" developers come out with "No, actually it's not on par with the Xbox 360 or PS3." I mean, which is it? Why is Peter Molyneux calling it a "lacklustre" system, when developers like Epic Games have given much praise to the Wii U? I hope all is answered at E3, because if Nintendo can get more 3rd party developers on board I would definitely feel more comfortable buying Nintendo's Wii U.
I'm not too worried about the controller, it probably functions a lot better than it looks. I remember the looking at the Wii remotes and just thinking, what? But Nintendo does a pretty good job with controllers, so I'm sure this will be no different. I'm more worried about, yes, the graphics and power of the system itself. First it's like, yeah the Wii U is twice as powerful as the 360 and PS3, then now ANONYMOUS developers are saying no it's not even on par with current generation consoles. I mean, which is it? Hopefully, Nintendo can silence critics at E3.
Whoah, sorry first time poster. Didn't realize the newer comments show on the last page instead of the front page. Well at least you got my point lol.
