Walking Dead's First Episode Hits 1 Million Downloads

The first episode of Telltale Games' adaptation of The Walking Dead was released a few weeks ago, and it's already cleared a significant milestone. The adventure game has been downloaded more than 1 million times, across the PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms.

"Premiering The Walking Dead game series to record numbers across so many diverse platforms is a tremendous achievement that shows the value of bringing strong storytelling and game play together," says Telltale CEO Dan Connors. "The tailored narrative design puts gamers in control of their own story within the universe of The Walking Dead in a way that appeals equally to hardcore gamers and to more casual gamers who are fans of the franchise.  The most exciting aspect of getting off to such a great start is that this is just the beginning of the five episode series. The Walking Dead fans are going to experience some really great moments in the months ahead that are uniquely influenced by the choices they make throughout the season."

Ben liked the first episode, and we're definitely interested to see what's ahead. It'll be interesting to see if the numbers stay strong in the following episodes.

  • I def enjoyed the first episode! Had to make some tough choices here and there which made me feel like what i did mattered. Cant wait for episode 2!
  • When is episode two gonna come out?
  • I was pretty tempted to get the full episode after trying the demo, but I rather wait till all five episodes are out. A pretty cool zombie survival game I've been really enjoying so far is Project Zomboid. Here is a link if anyone wants information, I highly recommend it. http://projectzomboid.com/blog/
  • I wasn't sure how I felt about the first episode until about 3 days later when I was still thinking about the choices I'd made and thinking about what's next. Really good story!
  • I thought the first episode was all right. Hopefully they can continue to improve.

  • Well deserved.

  • I'll just wait until all the episodes are out and I can play it without long breaks. But I will definitely by this game.
  • orz-

  • TellTale deserves it. Well done!
  • Might download this on the weekend.
  • Good to hear it's apparently better than that abortion of a game that was Jurassic Park.

  • I'm glad this sold 1 million copies. It's such a great game, very different from what you would expect, and I really enjoyed it. I played through it multiple times to see the different outcomes.

  • Really good game. I downloaded the bundle, so can't wait for the next episode.

  • Stuff like this SHOULD BE downloaded millions of times, not crap like Angry Birds.

  • My question is when are they going to release episode 2?
  • Since there is so much hype about this game I think I will download this over the weekend. Especially since its only $5 and they will be coming out with more in the future.

  • Boring game! It's like watching a video and you get make a decision every 5 minutes. And they don't allow the controls to be inverted!?!? This is a feature that has been present on every game since N64 so why is this game that is suppose to be all about decision making, not even allow the user to decide how they want their controls. Stupid game.
  • The numbers will most likely drop for the coming episodes, not necessarily because the quality worsens or anything, but simply because thats often the case with any kind of series (thinking TV here, but i think the same could apply to serial-based games). Still, could also go the other way with all this positive feedback the game has been getting, hyping more people to buy.
