The lights are on
Square Enix said tonight it is delaying the release of Tomb Raider until the first quarter of 2013. The game was previously set for release this fall.
Darrell Gallagher, studio head at developer Crystal Dynamics, posted a messaged on the game's official blog explaining the delay and noted Tomb Raider will be shown at E3 next month. Below is his message in full:
When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers.
The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.
We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait.
The game is looking amazing and we can’t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.
Darrell Gallagher
As an apology for the delay, Crystal Dynamics posted the above screenshot, which apparently hints at what we can expect to see from the game at E3.

Damn shame, I was doing a Tomb Raider A, L and Underworld run just because of this game and now this, either way i rather have a well made game than a broken one, shows that CD is really passionate about this game.
ok
Awwww maaaaan. It's really no biggie since theyre are a lot of big hits coming in the 4th quarter of this year - got my hands full :)
That's OK, developers should their take their time.
It is definitely in this games best interest to avoid Q4, it would have been massacred. Though I think a summer release would have been great. I would have enjoyed spending the summer playing this game. Everyone says they are delaying a game to make it better. But I smell a marketing delay.
Awwww!!! Well at least it's only a few months. But I guess it's good that they are going to improve it. So I can't wait to see how much better it will be!!
If the delay is indeed to ensure a shining flawless polish on the game, then I approve. :) If this is Marketing related, then :/ & *Facepalm* I don't pay attention to WHEN a game is coming out personally. It's a matter of if it'll be worth my time & cash to get, if I have the cash to get it, & if I even am ready for more games at the time. I'm not a Video Game Werewolf, I don't blow off games no matter how good they are just because it's not a Video Game Full Moon, like Christmas! (Metaphorically. I hope i'm making any sense here, i'm not very awake as of the time of this Comment...)
I am completely okay with this delay, I have a feeling this will be a game I play until it is utterly completed and for it to be that god a game it requires time and not being rushed. Plus there are already a lot of great sounding games coming out in the final quarter of this year.
And another delayed title...
Oh well, I'll just have to wait I guess.
Nooooooo!.........Well, i can wait i guess, if it's a good thing and not something dump with money, it's all good. So i'm cool with it, this just means it'll be better.
First Bioshock now this.
oh poo! :(
I'm very excited for this game. I've been a fan since the original Tomb Raider back in 1996 on the PS1; fingers crossed that this one will set a new standard the way the original did all those years ago.
I'm happy to see a company caring about their product and are willing to put their heart into it. They aren't just out to take gamers money.
Thank you Crystal Dynamics. Take all the time that you need.
aw man :(
I think I know how we get a bow...
Noooo!!! I have been Waiting for this game way to long now. It looks amazing and should be a great adventure!
