Rumor: Xbox 360 To Get Internet Explorer

Sony's PS3 had an internet browser since day one, and a recent rumor suggests that Microsoft's Xbox 360 is finally getting one of its own.

The Verge, citing multiple sources, has a rumor that the system will get a fully functional Internet Explorer browser that can be controlled via Kinect voice and motion gestures (but Kinect will not be mandatory). The 360 currently only has a Bing search for media.

If this is true, E3 would be as good a time as any to announce this move.

In these days of tablets and smart phones, does anyone care about a browser on their system anymore?

  • Ahh, finally!

  • Coolbeans!

  • I have mixed feelings about Microsoft 360 getting in the sack with Internet Exployer (IE) IE has always been a pain in the butt with Vista but then I guess you can't compare apples with oranges can we?

I purchased the XBOX 360 in December 2011 with 4 games. Yeah, another money pit.

  • Internet Explorer? Well, it's better than not having a browser...wait, no I need to think about this one.

  • It's sad to see consoles trying to become what PC's already are while they still continue to gain the market share of gaming customers.

  • The browser on the PlayStation 3 isn't really anything to be excited over. I wish the PlayStation had a full-fledged browser like Firefox but I guess it's going to be as good as it gets.

One thing I never understood, why hasn't the XBOX had even an older version of Internet Explorer on it? Never made sense to me in all honesty.

  • *Yawn* You know there was a period of about four months I went without a PC and really the only network-connected device I owned was a 360 (I don't own a "smartphone" or tablet), and this might have sounded good then. But the truth is, until the XBOX has the ability to multitask apps, this is pointless. Think about it - you still can't run apps while downloading media (games, music, movies). Welcome to the multitasking world of the 21st century.

  • Xbox should work on getting some games rather than a browser. Internet explorer?! LOL

  • Anyone else remember when Xbox P.D Aaron Greenberg, said that the X360 will never get a browser¿ ¬_¬“

  • Nooooooooooooooo! Not IE!

  • Cool but chances are I won't use it much

  • Wow, I guess what I said over live to my friends that Xbox 360 should have Internet Explorer. Know what. I guess tis true about this internet browser. CAn't wait to see this happen

  • Let me guess "You must have an Xbox Gold Account to use the internet" ¬_¬

  • If I could download torrents on my xbox then I would be excited.

  • Fire Fox would be better but hey cant complane about internet explorer

  • Oh god...

  • Should've went with firefox :/

  • Safari is fine. Chrome and firefox are deffinently the best. IE sucks though and always will thats why no one uses it. I love xbox and I play it but they need to stop putting old *** on the xbox. ps3 had touch sensative buttons and realized that it sucks because of buttons being prone to axcendtal touch. so they changed it and then xbox uses it. Now they want to put IE on it why don't they put something better on it considering they don't really come out with the newest technologies.
  • Ewww… The world's crappiest web browser…...
