The lights are on
Dead Space 3 is apparently getting drop-in, drop-out cooperative multiplayer, new gameplay elements and enemies, and a new weapon system.
According to sources speaking to IGN, Dead Space 3, which has not been formally announced, will feature a cooperative mode that mirrors the single-player campaign. If you're playing co-op, you'll still experience the same scenes and events in single-player, but with a partner.
Isaac Clarke can fight alongside a man with "a gnarly scar on his face, an engineering RIG of his own, and glowing red eyes peering from his helmet." This suggests he may not be a character in the physical world but instead part of Isaac's imagination.
As for enemies, Isaac will now fight humans for the first time. The report also confirms the game is set on a icy planet, which surfaced in a rumor last year. EA said earlier this week it will release a new Dead Space title sometime before March 2013, but would not say it's Dead Space 3.
Check out the IGN report for more details.
Alone, you're great. Together, you're unstoppable. Those who want a challenge or want to be scared out of their pants will be playing alone. But those who want to play Dead Space 3, but not by themselves, will need a little, friendly help.
I LOVE DEAD SPACE :)
dead space has been the best horror action game series of the 360 generation, so hearing about a third installment is very exciting and only adds to its credibility as a successful franchise. adding co-op and following its predecessor by changing the setting of the game would be awesome if they indeed do these things. i can't wait to hear more.
Sure. Every game is inevitably drawn to the co-op game wagon eventually. What game doesn't have it?
sort of eliminates the whole "fear" thing.
It does kill a lot of the scary elements, I mean look at Fear! Fear 2 was down right creepy, but Fear 3 wasn't really scary at all. Oh, and not to mention Resident Evil 5... I really hope this doesn't ruin Dead Space, this is an amazing series.
Don't ruin Dead Space, plz
I've wanted Co-op since the first Dead Space and hope that the game will add a TON more enemies in co-op mode or...it just won't be scary.
Oh and on that whole "scary" bit, Viseral better crank up the scares this time around. Dead Space 2 was a bit of a let down in the creep-me-out-of-my-pants scares.
I am very excited to see the next installment though.
I honestly don't think it will kill the atmosphere games that usually are made for one persons can go even farther if they keep the story separate from the co-op portal did an excellent job of showing this
So long as it's completely optional and they don't stick some A.I. groupie in to follow you around just because you decide not to do a co-op playthrough. Dead Space is all about Isaac facing the Necromorphs as well as his own internal demons. You don't need a wise-cracking sidekick to tag along to spoil the sense of isolation uttering such pharases as "Don't worry Zak ol' bud! I'll take out these Morphs for ya'!"
People, let's just get one thing straight. This isn't going to happen! The Dead Space video game franchise has its roots in primal fear. You put co-op in there, you basically sever those roots.
"As for enemies, Isaac will now fight humans for the first time."
WHOEVER WROTE THIS ARTICLE OBVIOUSLY DID NOT PLAY ALL THE WAY THROUGH DEAD SPACE 2...
Boo! Dead Space 2's multiplayer sucked... no doubt DE3's co-op will be equally forgettable. Just make the f*ckin game the way we all liked it the first time already.
Dead Space 3 on an ice planet would be cool if it was like the one from the newer Star Trek movie, you know the one with the big monster.
i know what u die hard horror fans are thinking. "they killed the horror man this game is no fun anymore." this is the "possible" outcome of the game. if we are lucky EA can make this work. though the chance of success is kinda low it could work. plus look on the bright side, you can scream in horror with friend. and since we're facing humans and necromorphs now, you can guarantee there will be ways to make them gruesomely slaughter eachother.
Anyone see the movie Eden Log? That's how I want the next dead space to be. Minimal exposition and storytelling, a character who has no idea whats going on, and dark visual presentation. I'd also like him or her to use actual mining tools rather than guns. I'm taking jackhammers, TNT, sledgehammers, nailguns, you name it.
