Rumor: Dead Space 3 Getting Co-op

Dead Space 3 is apparently getting drop-in, drop-out cooperative multiplayer, new gameplay elements and enemies, and a new weapon system.

According to sources speaking to IGN, Dead Space 3, which has not been formally announced, will feature a cooperative mode that mirrors the single-player campaign. If you're playing co-op, you'll still experience the same scenes and events in single-player, but with a partner.

Isaac Clarke can fight alongside a man with "a gnarly scar on his face, an engineering RIG of his own, and glowing red eyes peering from his helmet." This suggests he may not be a character in the physical world but instead part of Isaac's imagination.

As for enemies, Isaac will now fight humans for the first time. The report also confirms the game is set on a icy planet, which surfaced in a rumor last year. EA said earlier this week it will release a new Dead Space title sometime before March 2013, but would not say it's Dead Space 3.

  • I was wondering when they'd come to this obviously AWSOME conclusion.

  • No, no, no!

  • Co-Op? I really don't think I like this, it seems unnecessary. It could easily kill the vibe. And human enemies? Visceral better know what they're doing. The last thing I want is a freaking cover system and whole levels with nothing but dudes with guns trying to kill me like in Resident Evil 5. Didn't work then, probably won't work now. They had a good thing going with Dead Space 2, so I only hope they don't mess this one up.
  • "a gnarly scar on his face, an engineering RIG of his own, and glowing red eyes peering from his helmet."

Aw. For a moment there I was hoping that we would be seeing Ellie with her own techsuit. That would be pretty cool.

  • EA are always latching onto the latest trends to make more money with their big franchises. I do hope this works out though..

  • That would be totally awesome!  I'm hoping its split-screen!

  • i'm sensing a Nathan Hale fate for Isaac Clarke.seems appropriate, corrupted by the Marker.

  • I don't wanna dismember people :( only necromorphs cuz they're jerks

  • Would definately wait til I beat the game solo before I go diving into co-op. Playing with another person kills the immersiveness, story, and atmosphere.

  • Bring on E3 already so we can dive into some details.

  • "Drop-in, drop-out" cooperative multiplayer. That seems like it would almost ruin the atmosphere of the game. It would probably be best for fans t ogo through it solo, first.
  • the enemies  ware never there

its all part of his imagination

    how stupid is that

  • I don't mind the addition, but adding co-op normally ruins the horror experience, for me at least. Although I do like the idea of the player being part of Isaac's imagination. I really hope it's a separate mode.
  • I remember when this was planned for Dead Space 2... hopefully this means they'll be scrapping the competitive aspect.

  • I don't mind, until I don't have to drag around a stupid bot in single player mode. I hope it's really just a rumor...

  • I want ellie to live

I fell that won't happen by the end of 3

  • well thats cool......multiplayer is the least of my worries however, i wanna see what isaacs life has in store for him this time

  • Natch.

  • as long as it's not like RE5 coop where you have someone with you the ENTIRE game.  Horror survival games are meant to be single player games, because you're less scared if you have someone with you the entire game.

  • Dead Space with co-op? Now I don't think DS is the scariest game, but adding co-op will surely get rid of any of the scare factor.
