Insomniac Announces Outernauts

The latest developer to get into social gaming is Insomniac Games (Resistance, Ratchet & Clank), who have just announced Outernauts for Facebook.

The game casts you as a member of the Outernauts, an elite force created by United Earth to capture and train alien beasts in the Outernauts battle against space pirates, evil corporations, and the mysterious "Ancients."

Says Ted Price, founder and president of Insomniac, “We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience of gamers through Facebook. As we have demonstrated for nearly 20 years in the console games space, we’re confident we can help evolve the definition of a game experience on Facebook. With Outernauts, we are delivering a deep story with real RPG strategy, coupled with Insomniac’s signature sense of humor.”

The game is currently in closed beta, and will go live this summer.

  • EA tried to make a "real game" for Facebook when they made Dragon Age Legends and they didn't really do that great a job then.

I'll at least try it, but with low expectations.

  • It would be better if it was Ratchet and Clank. Moar plz!

  • This is a Facebook game I might have to play...
  • While it looks decent, the fact that it is an Facebook game (let alone an EA Facebook game) will probably make it suck.

I can't be the only person who is just exhausted by Facebook being EVERYWHERE.

  • So is United Earth not an evil corporation? I mean they are in essence enslaving aliens to use as weapons lol.
  • The whole Facebook thing isn't really doin' it for me.

  • Good luck to 'em. Facebook games are pretty ****y, but whatevs. I get it. You're trying to reach different people. A lot of people want to play games, but don't wanna be a homicidal maniac murdering hundreds of thousands zombies/terrorists/nazis. If all you're looking at are the games with the largest advertising budgets, then it probably looks like there's little on the console side that interests you. To reach those people, you have to go to iPhone or Facebook now. Which is why games like Republique choose the iOS for it's lead SKU these days. *sigh*

Stupid military shooters. There was such a better variety of titles during the PS2 era. Titles that got promoted properly anyway; all the inventive console games are downloadable arcade/PSN games, and they don't get commercials. Let alone, obnoxious omnipresent Gamestop Machinima ads airing 24/7.
  • God can I click 'Play' on a video just once on this site and NOT have to sit through a ****ing 30 second Ghost Recon Ad? Especially for a 35 second trailer! **** you Game Informer. Enjoy your illgotten advertising dollars. I hate it when you just bend over for large publishers. Some ads are too intrusive and omnipresent, y'know?

  • Not buying it...

  • nope

  • A promising social game, often and always, encourages players to keep exploring fun, humor and depth beyond the gameplay itself. Outernauts exactly does the way nothing more than an engaging storyline narrated through your Outernauts superhero and non-player controlled characters.  As a member of United Earth’s elite Outernaut force, you’ll encounter both friends and foes as you uncover the riddle behind the mysterious “ancients” while battling pirates and evil corporations seeking to control the galaxy. The story is permeated into each mission you accepted, which could convince you a surprising scenario. Aliens in the galaxy are mysterious, so is the game world. For more information regarding it, please check www.dotmmo.com/outernauts-9748.html

  • looks kind of cool
