Insomniac Announces Outernauts

The latest developer to get into social gaming is Insomniac Games (Resistance, Ratchet & Clank), who have just announced Outernauts for Facebook.

The game casts you as a member of the Outernauts, an elite force created by United Earth to capture and train alien beasts in the Outernauts battle against space pirates, evil corporations, and the mysterious "Ancients."

Says Ted Price, founder and president of Insomniac, “We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience of gamers through Facebook. As we have demonstrated for nearly 20 years in the console games space, we’re confident we can help evolve the definition of a game experience on Facebook. With Outernauts, we are delivering a deep story with real RPG strategy, coupled with Insomniac’s signature sense of humor.”

The game is currently in closed beta, and will go live this summer.

  • exxtreeeeemmeee.....thppppppppp..... =P

  • The new info is nice, but didn't they announce this game a long time ago?
  • COOL! Now make a real game.
  • Really guy?! You went from Resistance to this? "Reach a different audience" is the new excuse for selling out.
  • Ugh all I know is that I will not be playing this.

  • Outernauts sounds similar to another game they may have announced. That, or Psychonauts. Anyways, that's nice I guess. Most likely means I won't be playing it...
  • A social Facebook game? blah. I thought they were better than that. Oh well

  • I, for one, am only excited that one of the world's best developers is exploring the new types of games of recent years. I mean, for God's sake, people! It's an RPG by Insomniac!

  • Insomniac is becoming another MEH developer. I used to like them but after this... nah, I'm over them.
  • I wouldn't have a problem with it if Price hadn't framed it as a way to get to an entirely new audience. What about the old audiences? We can still play the game and all, but it's not what we've come to expect from a much-respected developer. Not to mention it'll probably have the same microtransaction problems as most other Facebook games.
  • Oh boy. Insomniac's talent is going to be wasted on Failbook.
  • LMFAO so a great developer who made ratchet n clank and Resistance now makes games for casual *** audience?

    EPIC FAIL

  • I am not sure if I am going to play this game. On one hand, there is my love of Insomniac, on the other, my dislike of Facebook.

  • Come on guys you are better than this better than EA and a hell of a lot better than Facebook.

  • I. Hate. Facebook. Games.

  • so many studios being misused. i understand EA wants to develop for facebook, but why would you put one of your most decorated console developers on the job?
  • Irony.

  • Well that was boring.

  • Where are Overstrike? I am disappoint. On a different note, thanks to it being a (probably) not complicated and quickly made game, it won't take that long for them to do another project (If they actually are only concentrating on this.)
  • Sorry, not interested at all.
