The lights are on
BioShock Infinite was surely going to be one of the buzzed-about games of E3, but unfortunately, not only will the game not be at the convention, but it's being delayed as well.
The game is being pushed out of 2012 and into 2013. February 26 to be exact. Furthermore, the title won't be shown at events like E3 or Gamescom in Germany.
The following message hit our inboxes this morning:
A MESSAGE FROM KEN LEVINE
When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing.
Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013. We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible.
I won’t kid you: BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we’re doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter. We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months as our original ship date drew near. Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan’s golf club didn’t have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco.
The same principle now applies to BioShock Infinite.
What does this mean for you? It means a bit more waiting, but more importantly, it means an even better BioShock Infinite. The great can be made greater, and we owe it to both ourselves and to you, our fans, to take this opportunity. Irrational Games is one of those rare developers lucky enough to ask the people who sign the checks: “Hey, can we have a few more of those checks?”
We are also going to hold off on showing BioShock Infinite at the big events of the summer, like E3 and Gamescom. That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box. Preparing for these events takes time away from development, time we’re going to use instead to get the best version of Infinite into your hands in February.
The previous October date just felt too good to be true.

No prob. I'd rather wait for greatness than play a game than wonder what could have been.
After such a message to the fans, it felt A-OK to me. Get to it, devs!
Nice.
Infinite wait. Absolute tears.
Man, now I REALLY can't wait to see how amazing this game is going to be. Usually a delay like this would be atleast a little upsetting, but I really want them to pull off another masterpiece (like the original BioShock).
**BRAAAHHHH** was really looking forward to it at the end of this year. Oh well at least it will get the time it needs to perfect everything
I am completely alright with waiting a little longer because Irrational has proven to me that it always has the gamer in mind over its own profits like so many other companies. If they need a few more months to crank it up a few more notches, awesome!
NOOOOO!!!! lol well if they are tweaking then i guess i can let it slide
Will be well worth the wait.
FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Congratulations A game company taking the time to make sure their game is exactly the way they want it so they don't patch it 7 times in the first 6 months and release it while it's glitchy as F

Aw sucks,oh well my wallet can breathe a little more this year.
This doesn't really bother me. What surprised me was how early they started advertising for it - I remember the cover feature back in October 2010. It's nice to see creative directors with publishers who back their decisions.
Well....include a really awesome collector's edition and all will be forgiven
I'm probably the only one who loved Bioshock 1 but is not exited for this.
god **BRAAAHHHH**
Sad, but I'm cool with it. Irrational is amazing, and if they feel like delaying their game for improvement, I'll gladly wait. Still my most anticipated game!
