The lights are on
The rumors were true. Microsoft today confirmed a $99 subscription-based console available at its U.S. stores. In order to redeem the deal, you must bring the coupon seen here to a participating Microsoft store.
The deal requires customers to sign up for a 2-year subscription to Xbox Live Gold at $14.99 per month. The console is a 4GB Xbox 360 and includes Kinect.
Early termination fees apply, which you can read about here.
Not worth it in my opinion. That's $460 total you'll be forking out.
Buying the system without the subscription plan - with the same items with the deal - you'll save $30, which could be then spent on a game.
And it's always been my opinion that Kinect had come too soon. It was always my thought that they should've kept it in development and improve it's design and power, then release it for their next-gen hardware. That way, they would have been more likely to make more sales on that next-gen console because people would have been highly interested in the Kinect product.
Not to mention you could have released a more impressive Kinect line-up right off the bat had you delayed it's release.
If you think about it you're paying 219.00 for the system, plus 10 a month for the gold subscription....I don't know. Doesn't sound like it's for anyone besides the people that can't afford to throw down the 300.00 for the system.
I don't understand it. Where's the deal?
$99+$349 over the next two years? So it is $448 over two years to buy a 4 gig xbox. Not actually that big a mark up versus the $299+119.98 you would pay if you had a 4 gig and two years of xbox live. In fact, $448 vs 418.98 is only a 7% mark up spread over two years, which is much less than you would pay on most credit cards over the same period of time right now.
Just looking at the base numbers without doing the math may make it look like a bad idea, but in fact it is not that terrible.
This "deal" is saving you a whopping $10.24!!! You can buy the system, Kinect, and two years of XBL for $469.00... this "deal" comes to $458.76
Crafty M$, very crafty M$.
I actually think the subscription idea is pretty cool and could be optimal when properly put together... but this makes no sense unless MS just has a really really low opinion of the average gamers ability to do math.
I can buy a 250 gb 360 used for 200 bucks on amazon...or pay 450 for a 4 gb one?
What garbage. You would obviously need to buy a bigger hard drive, and ironically the only one they sell is $130. Plus $15 a month for live? That's $30 more than a year subscription at it's normal price, which is a rip off anyway.
Where are people getting the 300$ number for the cost of a 4 gb 360. The new ones are at like 180 online. Does the Kinect really add 120 bucks in cost? Cause that's also insane.
Basically this sounds like it'd be a good deal for people who don't know how to use amazon.
That's rather stupid, and certainly not a good deal.
Its sounded good til I read the whole article.
So, $460 for this "deal", or you can buy a 4GB with Kinect from Gamestop for $300 and 2 $60 12 month XBL cards. Obviously, buying the system online is going to be even cheaper. The deal is giving Microsoft at least $40 more dollars.
That's kind of cool
Even though it's supposed to be aimed towards those who can't pay all of it at once, they will still end up paying more in the end.
No matter how you paint it, this is such a bad offer.
just save for 6 months and get a $199 xbox
I also cast my vote for "this is a crap deal".
"No Sir, I don't like it!"
This is a terrible deal. People would have to realize that, they get the system, they get gold and then....nothing. The system doesn't do anything, you have to pay for all the multimedia services. And you have to buy games, if you don't, your wasting money on a contract you cant get out of. A real suckers deal.
