Microsoft Confirms $99 Subscription Xbox 360

The rumors were true. Microsoft today confirmed a $99 subscription-based console available at its U.S. stores. In order to redeem the deal, you must bring the coupon seen here to a participating Microsoft store.

The deal requires customers to sign up for a 2-year subscription to Xbox Live Gold at $14.99 per month. The console is a 4GB Xbox 360 and includes Kinect.

Early termination fees apply, which you can read about here.

  • This is stupid and really srews the customer, not that Microsoft cares.

  • Okay, so they're charging you $458.76 ($359.76 in subscription plus the $99 for the unit)over the life of the contract for a stripped down Xbox?  Ugh.  Here's hoping this fails, I'd hate for this model to get any traction.

  • This Xbox is a great console...in some respects. But this?! This "deal" just makes Microsoft look like a bunch of assholes.

  • What a bad deal.

  • This is really no different than getting a smart phone for $99 with a two year contract through your provider. It really is just for people who can't afford the full price of the XBOX up front. Just like I can't afford an iPhone at full price. In the end, its just a way to make money off people who can't afford it, which is just a little on the sleazy side. I actually don't think it would be too bad of a deal if it wasn't for the 4gig console.
  • Ok its not as bad as many people may think. In fact I thought it was effing ridiculous when I saw the monthly cost. However let's calculate: 4 GB Xbox 360 w/ Kinect is $300 at Walmart.com Add in 2 years of Xbox live just for the sake of this argument. On amazon.com its around $50 for a year, so 2 years would be $100 Grand total of $400, $350 of which would be payed right away. Now for this new deal: 4 GB Xbox 360 w/ Kinect for $100 $15 per month subscription to xbox live required for 2 years. 15 x 24 = 360 (oh MS is clever) $100 + $360 = $460 So its $60 more to do this option. However you only need to spend $115 initially to get started. You are paying them a little more over TWO years. Rather than all at once. So this deal really is a deal, as it isn't some new format. Just not one we are used to with video games. If you don't like it....ok. But if you are short on cash, then its like a payment plan. And all payment plans have some measure of interest right?
  • Rip off

  • When I heard "$99 Xbox" a little while back, I immediately moved the money from checking to savings, waiting for the day that it would actually hit shelves. Now that they've revealed the catch, I will be leaving that money there and use it towards the Wii U and Darksiders II on launch day this fall. There are no words to describe how stoked I am for that game.

  • So you pay a total of about 458 dollars for the console and 2 years of xbox live.  How is that a good deal?

  • so... $99+$14.99*24=$458.76 ??

  • Clever Microsoft, it adds up to $360.

  • F that dude

  • ....meh. I mean ok some people may not be able to pay upfront. But if you cant, whats wrong with saving your money until you can?

  • I wonder who is going to get this "deal".

  • This would be great if it wasn't a 4GB model. Just not worth it.

  • I feel sad for the people that are going to buy this.

  • thieves.

  • So with the $99 plus the $15 a month you are looking at $459. And it's only 4 gigs. Definitely a rip-off if you ask me.

  • $460 for a $150 console, makes no sense.

  • Microsoft Fail... Or, you can save your money until you can afford the real system. 250GB Xbox360 elite= $300 3 month Live Gold sub.= $15 (Gamestop has a sale going on right now) Kinect = Don't...just....don't. total... $315... for 250GB and a THREE year Gold subscription... Analysis: SCAM
