Rumor: Obsidian's South Park RPG Has A New Name

If the game's page on Xbox.com is to be believed, the game is now called South Park: The Stick of Truth.

We haven't gotten an official announcement from Obsidian Entertainment, or the game's publisher THQ about a name change, but Microsoft's product page has a cover image with the new subtitle, so the new name definitely looks legitimate, at least.

We had the South Park game on our cover recently, and with it came a ton of additional coverage. Check it all out here.

Thanks to Daxter99 for the news tip!

  • This definitely ties in to the whole premise they talked about in the GI cover story, about making things from the real-world into epic fantasy standbys (i.e. throwing a baseball on fire to symbolize "casting a fire spell").

I always figured the final name wouldn't be "South Park: The Game," if only because I figured they'd want to distinguish the game as an RPG-type experience as much as possible. It's a major selling point for me, at least, because I totally agree that an RPG is the best way to make this property work in a video game.

I still can't wait for this game. We definitely need a solid release date so I can officially start counting the days.
  • Well almost anything is better than "The Game".

  • the new title sucks

  • That name is lame, I wonder who's to blame?

  • Any game for South Park looks stupid. . .

  • Not a good name. hopefully they're gonna get a new one.

  • Lame. Just South Park would have been fine.

  • Honestly i think it should be called South Park: The Lack of Life as a reference to the WoW episode haha.

  • Fits nicely imo.

  • i wanna play this i hope a demo comes out before release

  • sounds like a title they'd go with.

  • Usally the words "South Park" and "Truth" dont go together...

  • Just curious, is this seriously going to be a full retail game?
  • Sweet! The names kinda iffy, but this game may actually push some heavy hitters down to the bottom of my holiday buy list....

  • It's an 'OK' title. I'd go for it.

  • That's a dumb name.

  • I'll be buying

  • i have high hopes for this game.

  • Good or bad reviews, good or bad opinion of it, a fan sticks with it until the very end.

  • Oh, cool! Just let me know when they decide to not make it South Park-themed.
