Miyamoto Takes A Shot At Vita

Nintendo's creative visionary says that the powerful Sony handheld isn't "a very strong product."

While Miyamoto isn't known weighing in on his competitors, he definitely seems to have a low opinion of the Vita in a new interview with EDGE magazine.

When asked his opinion of the Vita, he commented, "It's obviously a very high-spec machine and you can do lots of things with it, but I don't really see the combination of software and hardware that really makes a very strong product."

He added, "But I can't really say."

Mr. Miyamoto, I think you just did.

However, he also acknowledged Nintendo's own mistakes in the launch of its 3DS handheld. Miyamoto said, "When we launched the 3DS hardware we didn't have Super Mario 3D Land, we didn't have Mario Kart 7, we didn't have Kid Icarus: Uprising. We were striving to have all of these ready for the launch, but we weren't able to deliver them at that time."

  • Miyamoto-san, come on I respect you way too much, theres no need to be like that and here I thought he was one of the humble ones T^T this is a sad day, a sad day indeed.
  • 3ds is the most bigest faleure of all time seroiusely it sucks and the grafics suck and the 3d makes u go blind and theres no ganes and all u do is waggel in games if u want a real portable systam get a iphone
  • How many people actually read the article a lot of the comments here seem to just be going off the misleading title
Gameinformer you are great but try to make sure the titles don't start fan wars
  • You have not created anything worth playing after the 90s mr.
  • I've never really been a fan of sony because of how lacking (In my opinion) the first party games felt.  Sorry Kratos doesn't do it for me.  The contrast between Nintendo and Sony always was the expirence the games had on me and my interests as a gamer.  Nintendo has innovated constantly for the past couple decades.  I've felt that they have a better grasp of game development (not marketing and economic decisions).

  • I love my vita, but I do agree that sony needs some damn games!!!

  • BURN!

  • I hope the Vita will be successful, and there will be a vibrant market of portable games and gamers that can pick and choose from great titles with Nintendo AND Sony!  Game Boy fanboys (like myself) need to embrace the PSP and Vita because they help sustain the portable gaming market.  Maybe, Sony and Nintendo can sell their portables for a LOW LOW price to those gamers that will own both handhelds...  That's a GREAT idea!!!

  • "It's obviously a very high-spec machine and you can do lots of things with it, but I don't really see the combination of software and hardware that really makes a very strong product."

    wow, he really blasted it....durp

    stupid media

  • He should do it before

  • How is he 'taking a shot?' On ign, they titled it 'Miyamoto gives Sony advice.' It's all in how these topics are titled on these websites. The author throws in his 1 cent to try and give his title credibility. Read and judge for yourself without the title. He's being nice and critiqued both products. That's all I get from this.
  • Screw you, you idiot! What is better then vita? 3DS? You gotta be *** kidding me!
  • can someone tell me the differences between the vita and the psp?
  • screw nintendo and its childish games

  • If Miyamoto says it, it's biblical. *throws Vita out the window*

  • Coming from the same man that said he can make a game similar to Halo.

  • What THE!!!! I have both and the VITA is better. It is the 2ND best to PS3!!!

  • Doesn't surprise me he would say that, but the Vita launch was 100 times better than 3ds. I bought BOTH on day 1 so I can make an ubiased decision. Hmmmm, rayman, fifa, uncharted and wipeout compared to nintendogs, pilot wings, steal diver and ridge racer? Easy little fella, your comments and the way you contradict yourself make you sound foolish, now go design me another Mario.
  • This is bullsh*t, GameInformer. Post the WHOLE article. His comment is being taken out of context. Not cool...
  • and as the war rages on, my asus transformr steals the show.
