Draw Ads In Draw Something

Draw Something users could soon be asked to draw items like Doritos or Coca-Cola. A new ad initiative by Zynga will ask users to draw popular brands and products rather than look at traditional banner ads.

According to AdAge.com, the National Hockey League is among the first advertisers to buy terms in the game, like puck, Zamboni, and hat trick. This idea was previously tested using terms like Nike, KFC and Doritos in the game.

But is it too late for one of the fastest-growing mobile apps? A report from earlier this month suggested that five million users have already abandoned the game.

  • There is no vocabulary in the whole universe to adequately describe how absolutely awful this is.

  • Draw Something is an OMGPOP company not Zynga.

Edit: didn't know they got bought out. I thought it was odd that Zynga had an original idea.
  • Yea i got addicted to it...played the crap out of it. Then it just got completely boring

  • This is totally a great marketing idea as deceptive as it may be but such a good idea.

  • Cool

  • I'm not sure how I feel about this.

  • Vintage Zynga move. God, they're repulsive.

  • I think it's a great idea.  More words to draw, less adds, I don't know where the hate is coming from

  • People would probably still play it if it had an end game... it just keeps going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.......

  • Yeah, no thanks.

  • Why not draw adds?Like on primetime t.v. That way all the visual artists out there can make some money. That's cheap though that this big fat corperations are once again stealing people's work and dipping there hand in the pot to make money!By the way Game informer. I abhor you and Gamestop right now because you let all these juvenile drawings win contests that real artists like me deserve to win.If I told you I was a little kid dying of cancer who liked to play video games would I have won the contest?More crap artwork. All the money in the world can't buy you good taste.

  • I love it! Drive consumer engagement with the ad up by making them interact with it.

  • If I got one of those words, I wouldn't even draw it; I'd just write it. That said, at least people won't have to look at banner ads anymore.

  • eww

  • Hmm...I don't know how I feel about this. Either way I'm HORRENDOUS at Draw Something :(

  • I consider it is really a great thought.  More phrases to draw, a smaller amount adds, I do not know where the hate is coming from

  • If this ever happens, I will never play this again and not upgrade for $1. I cannot do those things very well.

  • Strange
