Draw Ads In Draw Something

Draw Something users could soon be asked to draw items like Doritos or Coca-Cola. A new ad initiative by Zynga will ask users to draw popular brands and products rather than look at traditional banner ads.

According to AdAge.com, the National Hockey League is among the first advertisers to buy terms in the game, like puck, Zamboni, and hat trick. This idea was previously tested using terms like Nike, KFC and Doritos in the game.

But is it too late for one of the fastest-growing mobile apps? A report from earlier this month suggested that five million users have already abandoned the game.

  • This is kinda sad.
  • Wow that's twisted.

  • won't be long until they have you drawing trojan condom or tampax ads.
  • If only there was a way for a company to generate massive piles of cash for itself...oh wait.

  • I could actually see this working if there are people playing this. You're drawing the picture of the ad so it'll stay with you longer and because you are basically interacting with the advertising it will have a greater effect on people's minds than those ad bars. Interesting idea and highly manipulative. Maybe this is why people dislike Zynga.
  • Choose your word! 1 Coin - Doritos 2 Coins - Coca-Cola 3 Coins - Starbucks "When will I be able to play the game and stop drawing ads?" "This is the game."
  • brilliant marketing in my opinion, too bad that report states no one plays this anymore
  • Angry Birds Space from Rovio took over Draw Something so easily... Zynga needs to step their game up to bring something fresh and exciting...
  • ^ and it won't be long before this guy gets his own ad on draw something.

  • If you drew the Blue Jackets logo, would anyone recognize it?

  • They've been doing this for a while, I know I've drawn Pepsi on more than one occasion.

  • Me thinks this will only get more folks to stop playing. Or perhaps draw genitalia in retaliation.
  • I just had Doritos as a draw something word last night... :( meh

  • thats actually a very effective ad strategy. kinda sleazy, but effective for people who dont realize whats happening.

  • I'm not playing anymore if these are going to be the new terms.  I've seen the same stupid celebrity words over and over, and now they're selling out the game itself.  nty.. there are plenty of gems out there

  • This is what happens when you buy a game that is more of a fad than a product that can stand on its own

  • Ugh :\

  • ...Why is Carrot Top in a Flyers jersey?
