The lights are on
Nintendo's creative visionary says that the powerful Sony handheld isn't "a very strong product."
While Miyamoto isn't known weighing in on his competitors, he definitely seems to have a low opinion of the Vita in a new interview with EDGE magazine.
When asked his opinion of the Vita, he commented, "It's obviously a very high-spec machine and you can do lots of things with it, but I don't really see the combination of software and hardware that really makes a very strong product."
He added, "But I can't really say."
Mr. Miyamoto, I think you just did.
However, he also acknowledged Nintendo's own mistakes in the launch of its 3DS handheld. Miyamoto said, "When we launched the 3DS hardware we didn't have Super Mario 3D Land, we didn't have Mario Kart 7, we didn't have Kid Icarus: Uprising. We were striving to have all of these ready for the launch, but we weren't able to deliver them at that time."

Problem, Sony?
he' not really dissing. its a modest response to something. his objective want to tear down sony with cheap insults. All he said was that it wasnt very strong in his opinion. doesnt sound a dis to me. now what is a dis is Jack tretton calling nintendo a company that makes babysitting toys
That headline is really misleading. He was acknowledging the similarities between the launch of the 3DS and the launch of the Vita. Didn't really take a shot at the handheld.
He's not really taking a shot, he's just noting how the Vita needs more software.
This headline was really misleading. I thought Miyamoto was going on a rant or something but that's not it at all. He was asked about the Vita and he gave a modest response, he even felt bad about the statement by saying, "But I can't really say," and even goes on to acknowledge the 3DS's flaws. I am disappoint at this.
He's right though. The PSP is a very unpopular system, and it's whole thing was "You can have console experiences on the go, people!". As the world marched on and the DS and smartphones have proven, we want games DESIGNED FOR MOBILE PLAY.
It's a cool, exclusive trick that the Vita can play Uncharted games and stuff, but Sony REALLY needed to show that it was going to have a much bigger variety of titles than that. Everything from the next Angry Birds to the aforementioned Uncharted and everything in between. But they didn't. Their whole thing, again, is "Look at all the console experiences you can have on the go people!". It's really sad that they didn't learn much from the PSP days. The drought in software since launch is also pretty lame; hurt the 3DS a ton as well.
At least they haven't done anything as stupid as use those stupid squirrels for an ad campaign*. So...that's progress!

Cummon this is utter madness...
Yeah, it's really strange he said that because the 3DS is definitely the inferior product. I guess if you like 3D a lot, but I know that when I used it I had the 3D off most of the time.
