Harmonix Developing Next-Gen Title

Add Rock Band developer Harmonix to the list of developers working on video games for next-generation systems.

A recent job posting says the candidate will "work closely with our world-class artists to bring their work to life on brand new IP and next-generation consoles."

Other job listings on the website that could be related include building a music game that's a "unique motion-gaming IP" that features combat encounters as well as player exploration.

  • Aren't music games a dying genre?I mean, wasn't that the reason for guitar hero getting axed?I don't play them personally because I believe there is no depth and I like a great story.I guess some people just like to play their favorite songs or something?

  • I still play rock band 3 atleast weekly if not every few days.

  • I don't know whether to be interested or not. Kinda over the idea behind music games, but I'm up for a new ip.
  • let's hope it fully uses next gen tech instead of being a copy and paste rockband game with a good artist like rollingstones.

  • Will keep it under observation...

  • Some people fail to realize that Rocksmith exist and you play a real guitar.

  • Isn't that last bit exactly what Theatrhythm is?

  • seems like quite a few devs are hiring for next gen consoles. expect to see some hardware at e3 next year

  • I still play and download weekly. Don't know about putting in combat. Would still be interested in new IP though.

  • let's hope it completely employs subsequent gen tech instead of becoming a backup and paste rockband video game using a excellent artist like rollingstones.

  • Seems most studios are going to the next gen.
