The lights are on
Update: EA has apparently changed its tune regarding the iOS version of Rock Band. Players were greeted with a message stating that the game was going to be rendered unplayable starting May 31, which created a bit of a stir online. Now the publisher says the notice was sent in error.
"Rock Band for iOS will remain live - the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error,"
EA wrote in the statement, which was sent to CNET. "We apologize for the confusion this caused. We're working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible."
Now we just have to wait to see if the additional information that EA plans on sharing is simply another termination date.
Some players of Rock Band for iOS were met with a disturbing message this morning. The game will no longer be playable at the end of May.
The purported image above first surfaced on Reddit today showing the in-game notice. Developer Harmonix said it's not aware of the cause of this issue and is currently in contact with EA about the situation.
Rock Band on iTunes is still available for purchase, however, and there is no warning about the game expiring on May 31 anywhere on the product page.
We'll update this story once we hear more from both Harmonix and EA.
Looks like an employee or ex-employee is having fun at Harmonix's expense.
Does anyone know if this also affects Rock Band Reloaded for iOS?
While I haven't seen the message on my copy, I just wanted to know...
Although, I thought that both copies had single-player (which could possibly be played offline, airplane mode), and if it is just a branding issue, EA logos etc., can't they remove them with an update or something?
You know that reminds me of that GI story about when current games will expire. Anyone remember that?
They should be refunded.
And this is why some games should not be ruined with multiplayer features, we are buying a temporary product that way.
I'm pretty sure that they were hacked because the most to shutting down a game anyone has ever done, was shut down multiplayer. And besides i'm sure harmonix would have some say in the matter. regardless of how scumbag they are there are certain procedures to things. (don't just bash on EA either, all major publishers are scumbags in some way just look into the Activision and CoD franchise)
Also, has anyone thought that this is a troll on reddit? If other people aren't experiencing this issue then.... what exactly is the problem? perhaps this is Anti-EA propaganda? You can never be too paranoid when it comes to the internet.
Just in case any of the kids from the Overblood group are here, I'm the guy who left after the insane shitstorm over asking whether or not anyone else boycotted this company. So, I just want to passive aggressively ask, NOW DO YOU SEE?! NOW DO YOU *** SEE?!
Who spilled coffee on their desk?
April fools!!!! Wait...
lol, apps are wastes of money.
...unless you purchase the playable dlc for $5
That's EA for you!
Eh, doesn't really seem legitimate enough.
If it's already on your device how is it going to be deleted. You'd have to update it right? I'm saying this is a troll.
