We Could Be Getting A $99 Xbox 360

As soon as next week, Microsoft is planning to launch a $99 Xbox 360 bundle with a monthly subscription, according to a new report.

The Verge says Microsoft will offer a 4GB console with a Kinect sensor at its U.S. stores that includes a monthly fee of $15. The subscription will be two years and give you access you Xbox Live Gold and possibly more. The report also notes there will be a termination fee if the contract is broken ahead of time.

Microsoft said it has not made any announcements and does not comment on rumor or speculation.

  • Cool
  • that's a great deal only if it was for the PS3 but its a long time away.
  • It seems like a bad deal in the end. $15 monthly subscription fee for Live, which means instead of buying a year membership for $60, you only get four month's worth for the same price and you cannot cancel without breaching the contract. That'll get pretty pricey in the long run.

Edit: Doing the math, after two years the total price would add to a little over $460. OUCH!
  • Perhaps I am not reading this correctly but $15/per month for 2 years is more than $99. I am guessing they mean for xbox live which is still too much. They should really work on making the system actually work.
  • Ridiculous idea IMO . I can buy 1 year for what....60$!?
  • I was excited until it said was a 4gb! WTF is a true gamer gonna do with 4gb? I'm sure kids parents will snap this up thinking it's a good deal!
  • 99$ x-box 360?  yeah.  it's called a refurbished model.

  • bad deal
  • so the total will be 459 for a kinect based 4 gig console over 2 years?  kinda stupid unless it were a 250 gig console for 99 bucks i would go for it because you would only be spending 10 dollars more than if you did the 399 250 bundle console...

  • So, $15 X 24 months = $360 + $99 for Xbox 360 purchase..... $459 for an XBOX 360..... This is one of those times where Math = WIN. What a ripoff...

Anyone ever notice how when gameinformer (who's parent company is gamestop...) brings this crap up, they never call it out for being a money grubbing scam? Maybe that's why so many crappy games get such high ratings while Im thinking about it.... Hmmm......
  • Okay so... $99 + $15 a month for 2 years..? This could be a pretty good deal, especially since it comes with a gold subscription and a Kinect. I'm interested in what the "possibly more" could mean.
  • so all in all you would've paid 459 dollars for your XBOX 360.  this is a terrible idea, I'd rather buy a Wii U or even a PS3 than pay that much for an XBOX with no hard drive.

  • $15 x 24 months = $360 dollars. Total cost of "deal" = $460 dollars.
Cost of refurbished Xbox 360 slim w/ 4GB and wireless controller= $170 dollars (on Newegg.com). 24 months of Xbox Live Gold subscription = $100. Cost of Kinect = $150 (though its worth is much lower). Total cost without deal = $420.
I guess there is a $40 charge for being lazy and bad with money.
  • seems like a bad deal to me

  • Wow, that would be a rip off on so many levels.

Right now you can get the same bundle (without a Gold subscription) for $300 flat. This $15 a month bundle would cost you $460 over two years, which even when you consider buying Live Subscriptions, your still paying at least $60 more.

Throw in the fact that there might well be a new wave of consoles out long before the two year period is up, and this just doesn't make any sense. I could see doing this when a console first comes out as a way to sell systems to people who don't have $400-500 dollars to drop right away. However it just doesn't make sense at the end of a consoles life.
  • $15 per month for XBL and possibly more - such as additional streaming content. It also comes with an extended 2 year warranty. You can't do the math until you have the proper facts, we'll have to see what the extra content is before judging if it's a rip off or not.
  • I would much rather have the ability to play online for free and pay for all that other stuff I don't use. :/

  • lol all the comments are people doing the math
  • A lot of fine print on this deal. I'd expect this from Rent a Center, not Microsoft.
