The lights are on
Activision has today confirmed that the next installment in its Call of Duty series is indeed Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Until today's announcement, which was made on the franchise's official site, the publisher has merely teased that a new Call of Duty game was in the works.
The game was scheduled to be revealed later today during the NBA playoffs on TNT, but the title and other information was made available earlier on Call of Duty's site. The video reveal teased on the front page wasn't working at the time of this writing, but the title and other information on the game was live.
Unlike 2010's Black Ops game, which was set during the Cold War era in the 1960s, Black Ops 2 takes place in the near future. It should be interesting to see how Treyarch is able to create a contemporary Call of Duty experience that doesn't step on Infinity Ward's toes. Until now, the two studios have released alternate-year installments in the series, with Treyarch sticking to campaigns set in the past.
We'll have more information on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 as we learn more.

This COD series like the others will continued to get milked as long as people buy it until finally it's over! Didn't we witness this with Guitar Hero?
Zzzzz.
I can't believe people care about these games anymore. Because that is what FPS needed, yearly installments like what they do with sports games! And people actually will spend 60$ each year for what essentially boils down to a map expansion pack...

I think I'll hold off until 2013's CoD title: "Future Warfare 1"
I knew it.
It really doesn't matter when the game takes place it will sell just because it has the COD tag on it. But it will be interesting to see the series still has the steam to continue selling like it has
Never really cared for Call of Duty, but I rather enjoyed the first Black Ops (no idea how, guess it was because it was fun to do something with some friends.) So I'm probably going to look into it. No idea if I'm going to get it.
This looks good. I don't have many FPS games.
I thought the main cover was Gears of War 3
I loved Black Ops story, so I'm stoked to see it continue, but I REALLY LOVED the characters, Mason, Hudson, Woods, Weaver etc and I'd love to see them return, but the future setting puts them at 80 years old at best
Sam Worthington is a *** voice actor, and I'll miss him but who knows maybe there'll be a ton of flash backs like the original
Ive never been exccited about COD since COD4 but I like what Im seeing here
More details coming tonight.
Hey! The screenshot looks like Masterchief <--*computer auto-correct*, maybe this is his great great great grandfather!?
Anyways... I decided to drop by and proclaim my attention for NOT buying this game (I kind of like Treyarch) but enough is enough! I AM DONE!!!
I'll actually play Black Ops 2 at least. Never picked up MW3 though. I think I'm turning into an ever other year Call of Duty player, if anything.
I hope this is at least a little different from the previous call of dutys
My purchase hinges entirely on whether or not Zombies is coming back. I'm sure it is, due to its popularity, but I won't be buying this one if it's not in it (for whatever reason).
