Official Call Of Duty Site Confirms Black Ops 2

Activision has today confirmed that the next installment in its Call of Duty series is indeed Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Until today's announcement, which was made on the franchise's official site, the publisher has merely teased that a new Call of Duty game was in the works.

The game was scheduled to be revealed later today during the NBA playoffs on TNT, but the title and other information was made available earlier on Call of Duty's site. The video reveal teased on the front page wasn't working at the time of this writing, but the title and other information on the game was live.

Unlike 2010's Black Ops game, which was set during the Cold War era in the 1960s, Black Ops 2 takes place in the near future. It should be interesting to see how Treyarch is able to create a contemporary Call of Duty experience that doesn't step on Infinity Ward's toes. Until now, the two studios have released alternate-year installments in the series, with Treyarch sticking to campaigns set in the past.

We'll have more information on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 as we learn more.

  • Oh boy -_-

  • Black Ops>Modern Warfare

  • :[...

  • Oh hey look, it's another Madden NFL game....wait, MLB? NHL? NBA? FIFA?

I can't really remember what this game is. OH Thar's right, it's Call of Duty. I almost forgot because they put one out so often I just assume it's a sports franchise now.

And to fit in with what other people are doing in the comments.....

    Everything Else>COD

Yes they're fun, but I can only watch the same epic explosion so many times and play the lackluster , never evolving multiplayer so long.
  • HALO 4 is gonna murder this game with an unsharpend knife to the gut.
  • Surprise surprise another cod

  • WHO PRESSED THE PLAY BUTTON?
  • hooray.....

  • Annoyances with the franchise aside, I wonder if this installment will mix the characters from past games. Maybe Reznov's offspring will have a mission escorting (meaning "Follow") Captain Price or something.

  • how long. how long, baby jesus, until people stop paying for the same game over and over again? t
  • Am I the only one that is noticing a visual upgrade from BLOPS? And anyway, that gun in the picture looks like a futuristic XM8.

  • I'll be getting it probably. Rather than complaining about games, ect, I play them to have fun. Every single COD title has gave me fun. When that fun decreases, I go onto a new game.

I probably will get this but I probably won't play it for a long time. I picked up COD 3, played it a lot. I picked up COD: MW, played it a little. I picked up COD: WOW, played it a lot. I picked up COD: MW2, played it too much. Picked up Black Ops, played the campaign about ten times. Online... hardly. I picked up MW3, hardly played it.

But I love future settings. This has potential. Especially from the screenshots. I hope they do change the formula because I do want something new and to keep my interest. But I don't want them to go off their formula completely!

  • What's up with all the drones? Maybe you won't have squad mates in the campaign, just 3 drones with turrets on them lol

  • I think i will stick with MW3 for a while longer
  • Can't wait for this game! Loved the first one!

  • What!No way!

  • What a surprising name, this is so unexpected.

  • I will probably buy it anyways...

  • i have a feeling that this is going to be the last of the call of duty titles, activision knows when we have had enough and will probably deliver on something entirely new and engaging next year.
  • cool beans
