Electronic Arts Files Trademark For SimOcean

Electronic Arts recently announced an update to the SimCity series, a franchise that hadn't been touched since 2003, and it looks like it may want to continue with the Sim series.

Electronic Arts filed a trademark for the word SimOcean. It doesn't necessarily mean a SimOcean is in development. Electronic Arts could be making sure it owns the name before anybody else tries to grab it.

We recently compiled a list of all the Sims games and the ocean was one of the few areas of the globe not simulated when Sims were at the height of their popularity.

  • Next up: SimDesert
  • sounds... boring.
  • Sounds unique. We'll just have to wait and see if unique translates to good.

  • Sim all the things!
  • Wait... there was a game like this a while back... where it was like an underwater simcity where your people were like Fish, Rays, and Scuba Divers and houses were like pods.. and the city was in shallow water... What was it called, I only ever saw it on X-Play once.

  • WHAT TIME IS IT!?!
  • Yay, we've somehow time-traveled back to the early 90's!
  • Bring back Sim Ant!
  • If they had it start out similar to the cell stage of Spore, where you can create your own organism, and take a part of its evolution into a fish, and then have it switch from micro-managing cells to macro-managing ocean-dwelling populations of fish, invertebrates, and other ocean-life that would be cool. They could make you evolve organisms to survive in tropical and arctic climates, manage algae and plankton populations, monitor food chains, etc. while encountering climate change and natural disasters. I think it would be fun. I would also want to engineer a race of swarming evil electric jellyfish that devour everything in their path and wipe out all other ocean-dwelling life. That would be even more awesome.
  • I was hoping the trademark number was 4 8 15 16 23 & 42 and a smoke monster was to be involved.
  • If it has posieden somewhere in it I'm in.

  • Sim Ant, that is all.

  • godizlla lives in the sea.

  • DRM on an Ocean as well?
  • Hopefully it will be in the vein of the old sim games like earth, city and ant.

  • Interesting, they need to make a bundle of some of the best Sim games

  • Haha! I loved sims city! I saw a trailer for a Sims City 5... maybe that's what the ocean trade is for... considering most of the footage for the trailer focused on islands surrounded by water...

  • Atlantis!
  • I guess it is only fair that someone copyrights the ocean; now they can sue the poor people who swim in it.

  • That would be interesting.
