Resident Evil Creator Returns To Survival Horror

by Jim Reilly on Apr 25, 2012 at 06:11 AM

Shinji Mikami, who might be best known for creating the original Resident Evil games, is developing a new title in the survival horror genre.

This news comes from the latest issue of Famitsu, which details his first project at his new Tango Gameworks studio. The game doesn't have an official title yet. It's currently codenamed "Zwei," which means "2." Mikami says, however, the codename has nothing to do with the content of the game.

Mikami will serve as executive director, and although the game's platforms haven't been decided, he said it will probably be on HD consoles. Tango Gameworks was acquired by Bethesda Softworks parent company ZeniMax Media in October 2010.

"I've found my focus and once again I'm striving for pure survival horror," he said. "I am being very hands-on to see that the quality is there." Concept art was revealed showing the feel and tone Mikami is going for. Click the image below for a full-sized image.

Mikami last worked on Shadows of the Damned, Vanquish, and God Hand.
