Looks Like Next Call Of Duty Game Will Be Set In The Near Future

Could Activision be moving the next installment of the alternate-year Call of Duty from the past to the future? It looks as though we'll be parting with that tradition soon, if a teaser image and accompanying video on the game's official site is to be believed.

Details are scarce on callofduty.com, but they're slowly starting to emerge. The site is currently littered with monitors displaying a "coming soon" message. A few are filled in with static, however. If you click on one of those images, you're treated to a shot of a weaponized quadrotor drone, which links to the amusing FPS Russia video shown below.

As the host teases, the technology shown in the video is still 10 or 15 years away. He adds that it could be in the next Call of Duty game, however. Then we're treated to a series of demonstrations of the vehicle "in action." The vehicle, which is purportedly equipped  with a100-round magazine and controlled with a tablet device, makes short work of a variety of targets.

We'll know more about the next Call of Duty when it's officially unveiled on May 1 during the NBA playoffs.

  • Hmm, wouldn't be the worst thing. =)
  • cant stand FPSRussia
  • Call of Duty: Future Soldier lol
  • To be honest, this could be interesting. I'd much rather have a new series (sort of) than black ops 2. Unless it's Blops in the future...
  • i assumed they would move from modern warfare to future warfare
  • Wow, consider me actually intrigued if the setting is the near future and we get to play with a lot of prototype tech. Although, I bet they will end up being killstreak rewards anyway.
  • Is it to much to ask to remake Call Of Duty 4 and Call Of Duty World At War (exactly the way they were, no additions) and sell them as a combo pack for $40
  • "Looks Like Next Call Of Duty Game Will Be Set In The Near Future" Looks like I won't be giving a flying ***.
  • Call of Duty: H.A.L.O Half Assed Lame Objectives
  • Cool beans. FPS Russia for the win...

  • Dang now people will want to buy it

  • Cod: Crysis Edition...  $2,000,000.00 pre-order edition now with drone!

  • interesting.......interesting

  • Well, at least they're doing something different. Is this meant for the Wii U? The tablet seems like a dead giveaway. Also, I find the concept of this robot to be hilarious. Also, that thing is loud. Not exactly what I'd use for stealth missions.
  • Same exact game-play I bet
  • Considering this is a Treyarch Call of Duty, I wonder what this means for the zombies mode?
  • I was hoping/wanting it to be set in the early 80s. Too bad I guess.
  • "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in."
  • Okay, I liked MW3 but this is getting ridiculous. This sounds an awful lot like that new Tom Clancy game that comes out 3 weeks after the next CoD announcement. I'm probably jumping to conclusions, but if this is what i think it is, they have run out of ideas and are now taking them from other games. Come to think of it, a couple issues back in the Top Ten Spiritual successors talked about CoD and it basically is just a copycat franchise. I could be wrong, but we all know how stretched this series is.
  • I was expecting it to be in the soviet-afghan war
