Replay – Alone in the Dark: One-Eyed Jack's Revenge

Alone in the Dark: One-Eyed Jack's Revenge is the PSone adaptation of the sequel to a genuine cult PC classic. But the only thing scary about this early survival horror title is its clunky controls and loading screens that can pop out of any corner.

Join Andrew Reiner, Tim Turi, Dan Ryckert, and Ben Reeves as they struggle to look past the horrifying graphics and stilted controls of this 1996 horror title. Stick around for our Roulette where we play another game with terrible controls and graphics. Yeah, that’s right, they made two bad games that generation.

  • You guys should try to play through some Soul Fighter, for Dreamcast. Heck, more Dreamcast in general please - Blue Stinger, anyone?

  • this game looks lik its post to b on atari

  • "...horror title is it’s clunky controls and loading..." There's a grammatical error in there, Ben. It should be "its clunky controls," and not "it is clunky controls." Its is possessive. It's = it is. It's backwards.
  • Personally I thought the new Alone in the Dark game was decent.

  • You know, playing this game for the 3DO...I don't remember it ever stopping to load like that.  Plus, you guys didn't even make it upstairs to where the real fun begins.  3 guys chasing after you and if I remember correctly at some point in the kitchen you can find a frying pan and reflect bullets.

  • Nope, I have never seen or heard anything about either game.

And no, please, don't make Tim play Alone in the Dark. We're still making him reach Episode 8 of Overblood 2. He deserves better than to play two games of questionable quality.

  • Alone in the Dark just looks awful.  I don't even know if we should subject Tim to that one.  :X

I actually have the newest Alone in the Dark game on Xbox 360.  It does have some interesting ideas, but the controls and combat are pretty bad.  Also, there's a terrible tree stump  burning thing or something that you have to do in the end of the game if you didn't already that just destroys the game's momentum entirely.

Miracle Space Race was so darn boring!  Both tracks looked the same and there wasn't any sense of speed whatsoever.  Also, why even make a kart racer if it's not going to have multiplayer?

  • wow, those are some bad games!

  • Awesome, bizarre look at Alone in the Dark 2! Even though I lived through it, I'm incredibly fascinated by the era of early 3D games. As a Nintendo fan, I skipped past a bunch of early 90's games because I was playing the SNES. I would love to see more games like AitD, although I recognize how clunky and odd they are to play in a pre-Mario 64 world. I downloaded Twinsen's Odyssey from GOG awhile ago, and jeez laweez is that practically impossible to play!

Miracle Space Race looks just unbelievably worthless though. There's value to what Alone in the Dark was trying to do, especially in 1993. But a game from ten years later? That's THAT bad? Madness.

If you guys wanna look at some other non-Mario/Diddy Kong cart racers from that era, I suggest Speed Punks for the PSOne, which is really, really good actually. There's a Bomberman cart racer - Bomberman Fantasy Race, I think - that's on the PSN too. And of course, Sonic R, which is awesome. Although I admit it's pretty love it/hate it. I fall on the side of people who love it though; the creative modes, the hybrid platformer/racer level designs and controls, the fantastic music - Traveller's Tales really made one memorable racer when they knocked out Sonic R!

  • super replay of equestrian showcase

  • Wow both of those were appalling and a struggle to watch without falling asleep at the on-screen "action". Thankully the commentary saved it as is often the case.

  • I have an early entry into the shirt design if this becomes a super replay.

  • Ah, Alone in the Dark, good times.

For the record, the Thompson SMG was developed in 1919.

Edit - Yeah, really need to start posting AFTER I finish watching.
  • This replay, wow hysterical. And I have played both games, don't think I really made much progress in either of them though. Great episode!

  • This looks good, but personally I think I'd rather see Countdown vampires first.

  • Lot of obscure gaes lately, I kind of miss the good/fondly remembered games.  Can't I've heard of or played either of these but I have played the demo for the PS3 Alone in the Dark game.  Bring on the SUPER REPLAY!!!

  • Ben Reeves should host everything!

  • Please do a Super Replay of Alone in the Dark with Ben Reeves and Tim Turi.

  • Ben Reeves = the JarJar of Game Informer.
