Sony Patents Bizarre-Looking Controller

A new patent from Sony earlier this month has surfaced, showing off a bizarrely-shaped controller with the Move wand attached.

The controller peripheral allows users to change the positioning of the side handles. This is of course not official yet. Companies patent things all the time and never actually use them. Also, the design of this controller, if made, would likely look different that the diagram shown here.

What do you think? Is this something you'd pick up and use?

  • *** lame
  • That looks ridiculous; it's even bigger than the duke controller.
  • The circle in the center seems wider than it needs to be, and I wonder how this could be used for gaming...
  • Well that's obviously not a motorcycle controller because, well, who would want to play Twisted Metal with something like that?

  • That looks awful. It looks just like the Virtual Boy controller, what a terrible thing to take inspiration from.
  • "What do you think? Is this something you'd pick up and use?" Hell no.

  • We don't need funky looking tech that doesn't help "us". We need controllers that are more responsive to the shape and movement of the human hand. The design has to be cutting edge...and by the way Sony this is another money pit...IT WON'T WORK...
  • da m japs never could build anything pratical
  • I'm 99.9% sure it's for racing games. We'll see.
  • Sony patents awesome-looking spaceship*

  • For some reason it reminds me of the weapon from Krull

  • Its a UFO controller. THAT'S FREAKIN AWESOME!
  • It looks weird, but I could see it being used for something like a flying space shooter to aim an axillary cannon while the rest of your ringers are busy flying and shooting.  Or perhaps as some time of odd delving wand for some obscure use in a JRPG.

  • Looks like something you might use to play Starhawk with?

  • Looks like a sports wheel for racers.
  • Will that give the player the ability of flight? If so, count me in

  • Here we go again!
  • this looks kinda ridiculous, actually 0.o

  • No. I would never use this, and I nearly given up hope on Sony already.  If this is the route of the upcoming PS IV, they can keep it.
