Update: Sony has officially announced God of War: Ascension, and the company is promising more details very soon.

Sony's official PlayStation Blog and the game's Facebook page will feature a live streaming event on April 30, at 10 AM central time that promises more info on the game, including a Q&A with game director Todd Pappy from Sony Santa Monica. Head over to the official blog for more details on how you can participate.

Original Story: It seems Amazon jumped the gun with Sony's suspected God of War reveal by publishing the game's product page a day early.

God of War: Ascension for PlayStation 3 seems to be a prequel to the original trilogy, before Kratos became the Ghost of Sparta. Not much else is known about the story, however. The listing notes, "Join Kratos as he seeks freedom, redemption, and the clarity to avenge his family in the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far."

The product page, which is active at the time of this publishing, also contains a short CG teaser trailer. The listing indicates the game is out sometime in 2013, but no official release date has been revealed.

Even though this isnt the news i was expexting, its still pretty exciting ! Im guessing sony its gnna save a true sequel or god of war 4 for next gen prob. :)

Amazed at how many games get leaked.. If you just stay up to date with gaming websites then you will get early peaks at games that are not announced. Glad to have a great website and magazine company to inform me on everything. And on the God of War Ascension.. Well I play on xbox sadly:( Thank god for YouTube<3

I'm so glad this is not for the PS3. I'm not too sure how I can enjoy the story though. "Will vengeance bring redemption?" No, it just leads to more vengeance. If the blood oath and unjust god refer to Ares, then what kind of vengeance is he getting? In the beginning of GoW 1, he is still the gods' attack dog. If it's any other Greek god, well...........he kills them later too. I'm confused on where they could go with this.

Linda Hunt! I love her! I still have to play all the other God of War games, but it's cool that they're making another. It makes me think that this is probably the route they'll take with Mass Effect: Star Wars Episodic Syndrome.

God of War 3 was a bit of a disappointment for me. But I absolutely love all the rest of the God of War games. So I'm glad they didn't end it quite yet. I need something fresh from the sour taste that God of War 3 left behind.

God of War is one of the most epic franchises ever. really excited to see this and who knows? Maybe we'll be able to see him before he was driven to madness? Like when he was a normal guy but still a bad@$$.
