The lights are on
Update: Sony has officially announced God of War: Ascension, and the company is promising more details very soon.
Sony's official PlayStation Blog and the game's Facebook page will feature a live streaming event on April 30, at 10 AM central time that promises more info on the game, including a Q&A with game director Todd Pappy from Sony Santa Monica. Head over to the official blog for more details on how you can participate.

Original Story: It seems Amazon jumped the gun with Sony's suspected God of War reveal by publishing the game's product page a day early.
God of War: Ascension for PlayStation 3 seems to be a prequel to the original trilogy, before Kratos became the Ghost of Sparta. Not much else is known about the story, however. The listing notes, "Join Kratos as he seeks freedom, redemption, and the clarity to avenge his family in the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far."
The product page, which is active at the time of this publishing, also contains a short CG teaser trailer. The listing indicates the game is out sometime in 2013, but no official release date has been revealed.

hmm... this looks pretty darn good... always hoped there would be a prequel...
That's weird. A prequel? I thought it would be the continuation of GOW3.
u guys at GI already knew about this didnt u? i see the next cover story lol
Awesome! Can't wait. Although I'm kinda tired of all these prequels (like Chains of Olympus, that took place b4 GOW1, right? And Ghost of Sparta took place b4 GOW2, am I correct?), I am so excited that it is coming out for the PS3 and hopefully will be as good as GOW3 or even better. Psyched!!
most interesting
Maybe I'm wrong but it looks like he has the same grey ash covering his skin that marks him as the Ghost of Sparta (hard to tell in the trailer).
I'm curious when exactly in the overall narrative this new game will take place since we already have prequels to both GoW 1 and 2. I'm assuming it will at least be after his family dies but before he sets out to kill Ares.
Sweet!!!!
Some things just won't ever die.
the more the merrier
It's to bad my pax pox wore off. It woudl be great if it randomly came back on april 30th so I could see the bloody thing when it was live!
As a God of War fan that has played all the games ( except the cell phone one) this is of course, extremely exciting! While tthere isn't any gameplay footage yet, the presentation perspective of God of War III was nothing short of incredible and it held so much potential.
Now, the only thing I am a bit "eh" about is the story direction. I guess theres more to Kratos' origins then we experienced in Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. He did serve the Gods for ten years after he slayed his family. So im sure there will be supernatural enemies, and boss fights of Greek mythology.
BUT then I ask, what else? In the other games, Gods, beasts, titans, demons, and other beings were slain. What else could we be possibly facing? It seems to have a heavy emphasis on blood as well. Maybe we're facing more human enemies.
Also, she states "breaking the oath to an unjust God and being consumed in Blood." but, he is not the GHost of Sparta yet.
I guess part of me really wanted to see this conclusion to God of War III that is still shrouded in mystery.
But, if this season of The Tester was anything, all doubts can be cast aside. This looks awesome!
People can say "oh gawwwwd, not another GOW...sigh" all they want. This gamer will gladly pay up for a chance to step into Kratos' shoes any day, any sequel, any prequel and any other iteration they can concoct. As long as the game play stays solid and they stay true to the GOW brand it will continue to sell, and to that I say, bring it on.
As A gamer that has played and beaten all 3 God Of War games, i am SOOOOO Excited!
I really need to get into this series
I'm all for a new God of War game. And, as much as I love the Kratos character, I was hoping for a new lead in the next series. But, I will happily pick up and play this game when it comes out.
I'm curious what they can do in terms of monsters and story they can do in the prequel that wont effect the cannon of the other games? I hate prequels for this reason.
Kingdom Hearts made it a big deal to have keyblades, Prequel comes out where 3 keyblade masters traveled all over the place showing off their keyblades, and interacting with the cast of KHs who shouldnt have forgotten such critical details. and as such makes the first game look silly if you look at the time line.
