The lights are on
Erling Andersen loved Fallout so much he started his own website where he offered Fallout-style posters for fans to download for free. Bethesda did not appreciate this.
Andersen said he registered the domain name Fallout-posters.com last December, only to have Bethesda lawyers contact him weeks later asking for the website to be taken down and for the website name to be handed over.
"Now, I’m not out looking for trouble. I set up the website out of pure 'fandom', and the last thing I wanted – or expected – was to be threatened with a lawsuit by Bethesda," Andersen wrote. "What pisses me off isn’t the fact that they’re looking out for their trademark – as they have every right to do so. What I’m pissed about are large companies abusing their monetary power, hiring global law firms to go after a fan online, immediately threating with a lawsuit.
"Had they had the slighest bit of PR-savyness, they would have shot me a quick personal mail asking me to remove the (supposed) infringing content – and preferrably sent me some nice Fallout-swag as a nice gesture (yes, I am that corrupt)."
Andersen has removed the posters from his website, but still remains the owner of the website name.
Game Informer has contacted Bethesda for comment.
The guy was giving away the downloads for free - he wasn't capitalizing on the Fallout name.
Makes me glad I only paid $20 for Skyrim (Amazon had it on sale for $40 plus I had a $20 credit from Amazon, so $20 for the game new).
I've been playing Bethesda's games since Morrowind, watching Todd Howard interviews, even the one with him & that Minecraft guy. Bethesda tried to sue him because he wanted to make a game called "Scrolls" & now they're trying to sue a fan...come on, you let people mod The Elder Scrolls why do you have such a hardon for making the Fallout fan artist pay, that's so *** weak Bethesda, I used to like your company. God, you know, & I'm pissed, I bought Skyrim for PC, & if I got it for Xbox I'd be able to freeze the high five troll with my voice...*tear*
Actually Bethesda is right to care about a website like this one, but instead of pulling out the fangs like they did, they should have started by the basic : Communicate with the owner....
I'd assume this is Zenimax and not Bethesda.
*Facepalms at Bestheda* The Site Owner might not have done his homework before he started his Site, but why the hostility Bestheda, when there's no ill intent behind the Site? Not cool. :(
I'm starting to slowly lose more and respect for Bethesda as of late. Time for PR boosting!
Bethesda's lawyers are edgy as of late.
if they want to please their fanbase, they will let this guy slide. He made his own posters, and gave them away for free... nothing wrong with that.
Lets hope they don't mess with nexus....
This from Bethesda? They always seemed to be a "nice" business...aholes
For all the people who don't know, this isn't the same Bethesda that makes your favorite games. This is Bethesda's backwards-*** law department.
I can tell...hehe, just by the way people are talking on this thread, that a good half of them watch too much Spartacus, sorry, I know it's not relevant but half these phrases nobody uses anymore. XD
ok Bethesda made a good name but it dot mean they should treat there fans like crap... thats not right... they're jealous!
I wouldn't hand over anything.
Bethesda Discretion Is The Better Part of Valor!
lawyers. *shakes head in dissapointment*
