The Nintendo 3DS Finds Its Footing

by Matt Bertz on Apr 13, 2012 at 08:18 AM

After publishers released some 3DS games people actually want to play, NPD data suggests Nintendo's slow-starting handheld is finally performing steadily.

Though no 3DS games broke into the top 10 of the sales list for March, both Kid Icarus: Uprising and Resident Evil: Revelations had decent showings, selling roughly 140,000 and 122,000 units respectively. Analyst Anita Frazier said that if the company just reported on individual SKUs instead of grouping multiplatform game sales together,  "Kid Icarus: Uprising would have been among the top selling individual SKUs for the month of March."

The strong software sales come in spite of the 3DS trailing behind the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in terms of units sold in March.

This follows the news that last month at least eight 3DS games broke into the unpublished top 25 list, including Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Mario & Sonic at the London Olympic Games, FIFA Soccer, LEGO Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, and the aforementioned Revelations.

Though it probably will never approach the insane sales number of its predecessor, it looks like the 3DS finally has found its groove.
