Apple CEO Reportedly Visits Valve

Take a minute and imagine what the games industry would look like if Valve partners with Apple.

According to a report by Apple Insider, CEO Tim Cook visited Valve's headquarters in Bellevue, Wash. today, raising speculation the two companies could be collaborating on a project down the road.

Assuming the report is true, Cook and Valve president Gabe Newell could be talking about a number of things, including the rumored Valve Steam Box, integrating Steam into iOS and Apple TV, or maybe something else.

Of course, this meeting may in fact never happened.

It was discovered recently Valve is looking to hire hardware engineers, suggesting a type of game platform is in the works.

  • god i hope they dont partner with apple apple sucks! lol

  • Please don't join forces with Apple.. ugh  I can just hear it now.. the iConsole..  Gabe Newell, don't do it for the love of god.. dont do anything with Apple!!!!!!

  • First, Valve is very talented and imaginative, and if they were to create their own hardware, I'm sure it would compete with the next generation. However, I really don't want to see another console. I hate having to buy different consoles for different exclusives and content. And second, if they are creating a console, I would hate to see them associate it with Apple. Apple likes to do things the hard way. If you want to add or delete music of one of their devices, you have to have iTunes. Apple has its own little world that you have to participate in if you use anything made by them. It's incredibly annoying. And honestly, I've always considered Apple to be second best AT BEST with everything they do. (With the exception of the iPod) And I'm sure that they would only bring Valve's potential hardware down. On the other hand if it's not a console, then I'm sure whatever Valve is working on will be amazing, and I doubt if they'll leave me room to complain. ...But if they do, complain, I will! Oh yes, I will!
  • it's the end of the world... now is for real

  • please dont

  • If Valve partners with Apple for a console, get ready for a new version that costs $500 to come out every year.
  • I'm sure it's just a meeting to improve functionality of Steam in OS X.

I don't know why people are so fearful of the possibility of a collaboration between Valve and Apple. If anything it will just be a Steam app on the ipad. I'm kind of surprised that doesn't already exist actually, what with the app business being so insanely huge and profitable.

  • Please don't be true. This would be many people and I's worst nightmare to see Apple partner with Valve. Gabe Newell better have kicked Apple out of their office.

  • I'm really excited about this. My two favorite companies sharing common interests sounds really good!

However, the only thing I care from Valve today is WHEN THE F**K THEY PLAN TO UNVEIL THE NEXT HALF LIFE?

  • Oh jeeze... seems like Apple and Google are both going to control the world! Look out!

  • I imagine more Chinese kids in factories signing contracts not to kill themselves.

  • Valve doesn't need them but I could see something come from that would change games and some games need changing

  • You guys need to be open to new ideas! Just imagine Apple developing the console and Valve supporting Steam on it! Amazingggggggg. And maybe Valve can add some sort of achievement/trophy system to Steam! :DDDDDDD

  • if Valve was allowed to be Valve then this could be great...but with Jobs gone I fear this would turn into just another free iphone app...with a lot of users potentially downloading it and that is just boo

  • I think we might get a real portal gun out of this. lol

  • nope. nope. nope. apple screws everything up. let valve stay as valve

  • What will they make? a console that you have to buy each year? and one that plays games that are good for 5 minutes of killing time?

Please Valve, leave Apple in the world they created, the one that suckers people out of their money for minimal upgrades, and gives them the feeling that they are better then anyone else cause their high tech fashion accessory has a cute little apple on it

  • ahaha I jokely commented on Apple joining up with Valve to my family and friends or with nintendo , but this is very interesting.

  • That's cool to know. I wonder if he is gonna work on Portal 3...
