Apple CEO Reportedly Visits Valve

Take a minute and imagine what the games industry would look like if Valve partners with Apple.

According to a report by Apple Insider, CEO Tim Cook visited Valve's headquarters in Bellevue, Wash. today, raising speculation the two companies could be collaborating on a project down the road.

Assuming the report is true, Cook and Valve president Gabe Newell could be talking about a number of things, including the rumored Valve Steam Box, integrating Steam into iOS and Apple TV, or maybe something else.

Of course, this meeting may in fact never happened.

It was discovered recently Valve is looking to hire hardware engineers, suggesting a type of game platform is in the works.

  • Apple should just stick to music, cuz they don't know SH!T about games. valve is better off flying solo.

  • We don't need another console...

  • They might just be discussing about expanding the Mac compatibility in future Steam games. I would only take this news with a grain of salt.

  • They are just designing an exo-skeleton suit that will make you pantomime Half-Life 3, instead of ever making a videogame out of it; and Gabe Newell will continue to laugh at us all. Oh and it'll be iPad friendly.

  • Aw come on everyone.  Having Apple in the gaming console run with Valve would be great.

I mean, think about it.   We wouldn't have 5-10years between new consoles.  If Valve goes with Apple, its a new console EVERY YEAR!  Doesn't that sound great!   Who knows, maybe we will get Apple's awesome tech support with it!   No need to spend millions in game development either.   With Apple lending a hand,  Valve's games can be downloaded in seconds and be beaten just as fast!

<checks anonymous source email>  THIS JUST IN, I guess the every year bit is true!   Apple is already working on plans for v2 of the Valve/Apple console with a 2% increased performance!

    .....

Just the thought of Apple teaming up with Valve (or apple in general getting into making a game console) makes me want to go to the nearest Apple representative...  and punch the $#!% out of em!

  • Valve denied the Steam Box rumors, stop posting about it.

  • Valve denied the Steam Box rumors, stop posting about it.

  • Well now the maybe valve console might now be a valve and apple console. Now were having a steam powered apple console= Don't take my money I'll buy a PS3 exlusive

  • Triple post. Harsh.

    @ mods

Won't let me delete my own posts, so if it's a big deal, would you mind? :)
  • Ditto as above.
  • Tim Cook: "Hi Gabe, how are you today?"

Gabe Newell "It's Mr. Newell, thanks. What brings you here?"

TC: "Well, Gabe, our market research department was doing some investigating and it seems that your company has a very loyal and trusting customer base. Just wanted to come in a knock a few ideas around on how you do this."

GN: "It's simple really, offer the consumer value for their money, and should there be any dissatisfaction on the customer's side of things, we take the hit in our profits to make them happy."

TC: "BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" *wipes away tear, awkward pause* "Oh, you were serious?!? Uh... Well... Guess that's it then, good day."

GN: "What that's it? That's all you wanted to know?"

TC: "Well yeah, and we have big things to do. Our scratchless screens on the new iPads are too scratchless, so we haven't had the fun of telling people we don't honor..." *makes quotations with fingers* "...accidental damage claims and having them buy all new screens. So, we're offering a new iPad with scratchable scratchless screens in a new pearlescent finish for release in two weeks."

GN: "You ARE The Combine." *horrified look as the realisation that his fictional antagonists may well have inspired Apple to become what they are today*
  • Interesting...

  • Valve is awesome by itself.  It doesn't need Apple.

  • Valve+Apple= Apperture.....
  • That would be epic...

  • Does no one realize that Apple and Valve teaming up could cause a complete paradigm shift in the industry? Something it probably desperately needs. With Software as good as Valve's, and hardware as good as Apple, the combined entry into the console market could be the end of Nintendo as we know it. Sony and Microsoft could compete, but Nintendo would be in BIG trouble.
  • or...they could be having lunch because they're friends.

  • Only thing that I see is that Valve may make some apps or a few games for Apple. I don't see Apple making the system and have Steam in it. I just can't see that happening.

  • I hope this means that something new and innovative is coming to the gaming industry. Apple will eventually enter the game industry...it's only a matter of time.

  • They'd be unstoppable if they collaborated....
