Kinect-Powered Dragon Shouts, More Coming To Skyrim

Dragon shouts are about to get more shouty, thanks to a free update to the Xbox 360 version of the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The download, set to release this month, will add Kinect support with more than 200 voice commands.

The video below breaks down just some of the new functionality, which goes far beyond merely aping your character's special dragon shouts. Players can use their voice to access quick saves, direct their allies in combat, sort through their inventories, and much more. Bethesda hinted that Kinect support was a possibility a few months back.

All right, Bethesda. You can scratch this one off our wish list. Now get to work addressing the rest of our DLC whims already!

  • NOOOO i has a ps3 :(
  • Hooray! a new way to annoy my roommate with skyrim!
  • Not interested. Also how does lockpicking work?
  • Holy crap!? This is awesome because it's actually real instead of a mod. I just might have to get my Kinect back now.
  • PS3 i have it tooo!!! :(((((((((((((

    did'nt come to MOVE?????
  • FUS ROH DAH!!! my TV stand= dream come true.
  • Wow, just in time with your DLC Wishlist. How about that O.o
  • THIS IS SO COOL!! My girlfriend has a Kinect, so I'm just going to rob her of that thing and start shouting at my T.V. FUS RO DAH!! (that's how its spelled, right?)

"Ever since modders added Kinect support to the PC version of Skyrim, we've wanted this to be a real thing. Not only would actually shouting dragon shouts be entertaining, but we'd love to use voice commands to equip spells and weapons without having to open a menu. Bethesda could take another page from BioWare's handbook and add a quick save voice command too. If nothing else, we just want to be able to yell, "Shut up!" at guards who start complaining about their old adventuring-related injuries."

Ok you guys, conspiracy theory time: I think GI knew this was coming. I think GI knows more than they are able to legally say officially.
  • Epic! This is how you actually make games better with Kinect.
  • Soon, we won't even have controllers. We will just say to our TV, "Fight the Boss," and we will automatically kill him and beat the game.

  • well this is going to lead to some akward midnight gaming sessions. i have a pc but i can just use the kinect mod form steam store

  • See, this is exactly what I want. Voice commands so I can look like a *** playing this game. And so that my friends can make me save/load, equip random things, and shout without ever touching the controller.
  • Good luck with that. You'll probably get Kinect support, but the right analog stick won't work anymore.
  • Wow. this is actually really cool. although bethesda should have at least let the ps3 version use voice shouts via a microphone. us pc players can already shout with mics via mods, so I know its possible.
  • Bethesda is officially the greatest game development company in the world.
  • this is impressive

  • FUS RO DAH!

  • why cant i just use a microphone i dont understand why this is only possible with kinect and not a bluetooth...
  • Good god, this actually looks awesome. Shame I don't have a Kinect and my Skyrim is on PS3. Though it might be a good excuse to buy that special edition Star Wars XBox 360 bundle which comes with Kinect. Quick-saving - best idea ever for this series.
  • I've had the Thuumic mod on PC for a while now, and can say from experience that Kinect users are in for a treat. It's awesome
