Count Miyamoto Among Angry Birds' Admirers

by Jeff Cork on Apr 12, 2012 at 03:40 AM

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto usually plays coy when asked to comment on games from other developers, acting as though he doesn't generally pay close attention to the games industry. In a recent interview, however, he praised a little game called Angry Birds.

When asked what non-Nintendo game was his favorite over the past year, Miyamoto stalled by saying he doesn't usually answer those questions. Then, changing his mind, he said it was probably Angry Birds. "What I like about Angry Birds is that it has a traditional videogame [feel] to it, but also a very creative side," Miyamoto said to Edge. "And you can really feel that they’re having fun developing the game. That's what I like about it."

The latest entry in the Angry Birds franchise, Angry Birds Space, was released late last month on iOS and Android devices. Rovio says it was downloaded more than 10 million times in three days. Clearly, Miyamoto isn't the only one who gets a kick out of smashing pigs and their annoying little structures.
