Something Funky Is Going On With Darksiders II

THQ previously announced it was shipping Darksiders II in June. Now, that might not be the case anymore.

In a recent interview with Ripten, VP of Core Games Danny Bilson was asked about the possibility of the game being delayed past its June 26 date due to the recent restructuring and subsequent layoffs at THQ. He responded saying, "We haven’t announced anything… but the team is working really, really hard. We’re not going to ship it before it’s done."

A THQ PR representative during the interview was also unable to comment on the release date.

Game Informer followed up with the publisher and was told, "No new announcements have been made at this time."

So, there you go. Darksiders II was officially announced for June 26. But now the publisher refuses to comment on if it's still happening. We'll hopefully know more as we get closer to E3 in June.

  • As long as it's still being worked on, take as much time as you want.

  • i hope it comes out in the summer sometime.

  • they're probably waiting so it'll be released on all platforms at the same time, so it will release for all console at the same time as the wii u does.

  • Sooo.....maybe we wont see THQ in 6 months like certain someone predicted?

  • I'd rather have the game be delayed then buggy and unfinished. If it gets delayed, I won't be too upset.

  • I have really been looking forward to this game. I hope this isn't a sign that THQ is in worse shape than they project. I have always enjoyed their games to some extent and to see them go by the wayside would be a damn shame.

  • so your saying the game isn't done. Smart choice.

  • I think there is more here than just a release window issue. It seems to me that THQ will need to move many units of Darksiders II in able to help help offset their financial losses. I can't imagine the type of stress involved here. Vigil Games must be under huge amounts of pressure. This title is so important to THQ, more than probably anticipated at the beginning of the development cycle.

  • I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition, so it's like when GAME UK said they wouldn't be stocking Mass Effect 3 and I thought GAME Australia would be doing the same. But until I found out they weren't I was truly pissed. Please don't be delayed, because I have my gaming year planned out and a delay of anything over 2 months would *** it up so bad...

  • well, I can wait.....as long as it comes out soon.

  • I think this is better for me, since I'm interested in picking it up but there are other games coming out soon that I want to focus on first

  • Is it horrible of me that I actually sorta want it to be delayed to August?

Then I could get the collector's edition - with its epic mask - and just say its for my birthday... Right?

  • i've said it multiple times... THQ is done... July 23rd is a stone throw away in video game terms... They don't have enough fuel to rebound on the stock market...

    http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/thqi

they fell under $1.00 on the stock market... as of 4/11/2012 they closed @ $0.49..... They have to get back above $1.00 for 10 consecutive days or they risk being removed from the stock market listing... That time period ends on July 23rd 2012....

THQ laid-off over 250 people... They restructed their core game focus and got rid of many of their "kiddie/family" type games... Focusing more on dedicated ips such as UFC and Darksiders and Saints Row.

THQ executives took a 50% pay cut.... However, even with the paycut they are bringing in over $150,000 a year... I think they should take another paycut... Because that is still more than enough money to live on.

But yeah.. I've followed this pretty closely and the highest THQ has been since they fell under a dollar is like $0.62...

I'll put it in perspective... The 1 Year HIGH/LOW for THQ in the past 52 weeks is this.... High - $4.68(1 year ago), LOW - $0.45(2012)

it's in the link I posted...

I hate to say it... But I'm 99% sure THQ is done.
  • It's probably delayed, but not cancelled. The game is almost complete anyways, there's no point to cancelling it. And I was seeing commercials about it too some weeks ago.

  • oh well. well get it when its ready

  • please dont do this...work on it and finish it on time...ill buy 2 just to show u how much i support u...

  • The delay better be worth it because this sequel is looking so kick ass & impressive. Maybe this means another play through of the awesome first one is in order now.

  • Better for them to delay the game and make it good then release it unfinished.  Just my opinion.

  • Well no s**t genius guy, why would you ship the game before it's finished.
