Lost Planet 3 Announced

Capcom today announced Lost Planet 3, due out for PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360 early next year.

The third game uses Unreal Engine 3, and is being developed by Spark Unlimited, the team behind Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, and Legendary. Here are the plot details:

Lost Planet 3 introduces Jim, a rig pilot who leaves Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. Working for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC) who are preparing the planet for colonization, Jim joins his fellow pioneers at the Coronis base and begins surveying the uncharted terrain and obtaining samples of the planet’s energy supply – Thermal Energy.

With NEVEC’s existing Thermal Energy reserve running low the fate of the Coronis mission depends on the natural source of the energy supply being located. Realizing that this is a great opportunity for a huge pay-off and early ticket home to his family, Jim braves the risk of the treacherous environment and threat of the indigenous Akrid. Acting as a home away from home and boasting an array of tools that can assist Jim on the field, the utility rig provides Jim’s safety and is essential for not only his contract work but also his protection against the ever-changing climate.

  • Lost Planet has been a series I've always wanted to get into. Hopefully I can catch up by the time this one is released.
  • Boo yah!

  • *** YES YES *** YESSS!!!!!!!!
    Thank the scientific process
  • Wait, isn't Spark Unlimited the company who made Turning Point: Fall of Liberty? Oh dear...
  • Meh. I liked the first one.

  • hmmm..... burly space marine, alien planet , co op ,i think this is a chime i'v danced to many times before
  • were the first 2 even worth playing?
  • The first was amazing. The second was eh ok , The third needs to bring the love back. I love the series regardless but I miss the contained story of 1. Two had two many unanswered questions. But the mp was hilarious. Being a akrid and accidentally rolling into the ocean. ah good times. Oh yea hurry up jim and post resident evil 6 new release date of 10, 2, 2012
  • I loved 2 and hated 1, and this game is giving me a 1 vibe. So I'm going to wait and see how this goes.
  • Oh lordy, Spark Unlimited. Don't have high hopes for this one
  • Woohoo i sent this news tip make sure too make the RE6 and DMC articles as well ;)...........but anyways i like the Lost Planet series but this game is being made by the same people who made Legendary and Fall of Liberty.........i have a bad feeling about this game

  • Given the developers track record, I have low expectations. But who am I to judge? I couldn't develop a game if you kidnapped my wife and mailed me one of her toes. I'd probably end up going bowling or taking a bath with a ferret. I'll keep my ear to the ground on this one, I liked the first two.
  • The main character looks like a Gears of War character and sounds like Nathan Drake. The Vital Suit also looked like a mech from Armored Core
  • I mean the trailer was cool but that studio's track record is awful so I don't have very high expectations for this.
  • Holy crap it looks awesome! AND it doesn't have a stupid Asian as the main character! He threw the gun lol!!!
  • One was ok, slightly annoying that you constantly had to collect the plasma or die, something I'm glad they removed in 2. Both are decent enough games in my opinion, but not anything spectacularly special. The boss fights were always fun though, have to give them that!
  • *facepalm*

  • I was excited until i read "Spark Unlimited"
  • Mmmkay cool, glad to see they're not turning their back on the franchise. Then again, considering how poorly Operation Raccoon City turned out, this could be trouble.
