New Netflix Update Live On Xbox 360

Film buffs will be prompted to install a new Netflix update the next time they start the popular movie-watching app. Here's what's included in the new update.

Major Nelson is reporting that the latest Netflix update sports four new improvements:

  • New Skip Forward/Backward functionality will allow users to "move through movies quickly and between TV episodes easily." It also works with Kinect via voice and hand gestures.
  • An added zoom function that will show letterboxed content in full a screen mode.
  • Improved color contrast and darker black levels.
  • Cloud profile support that allows you to watch Netflix movies on other consoles (only one at a time).

I jumped ship and started watching Netflix on my PS3 after the last horrible Netflix UI update, so it will be interesting to see if things have improved at all. The boasted Kinect functionality doesn't have me all that hopeful (though surely the stupidly large box art can't get any bigger, can it?), but better color contrast is always welcome.

Has anyone checked out the new update? Is it better? Worse?

  • I watch Netflix on my PC now, but i used to on my xbox. Sorry just wanted to be first with something meaningful to say :)
  • Ill see tonight
  • I wish they'd improve the UI in the ps3 version. It works, but I feel there'd be better options if explored.

  • I downloaded the updste, and before reading this didn't notice a difference. Now that I know what to look for, I'll have to get back to ya.

  • I really wish that they would bring back the function if you click on a TV show or Movie, it would bring up the info about the movie or episodes of the TV show instead of starting the movie or show immediately. That is the one thing I really miss.
  • Still no Party Watch? Still not using it.
  • Where is Group Watch?!
  • Yeah, if the horrible UI overall hasn't been updated .. this won't do much for me.

  • So, no UI changes, just new features? Cool, sounds like a good incremental update

  • Netflix on xbox: Voice control is SO MONEY! The ultimate lazy setup!
  • I just wish I could watch stuff with my friends
  • I have netflix on my 3 consoles and I would say the most uncomfortable version to me is the PS3, the best one being the Wii and Xbox the intermediate.
  • they didnt have that? wow
  • my favorite version is the vita one you can have party chat enabled so its like watching with friends and hearing their comments, i like the ui for it too its crisp and easy.

  • Great but I've got a Roku box. It doesn't get easier than that.

  • I miss being able to watch movies with friends, and I hate that you still have to start a tv show before you can select the episode that you have to watch. That's why I began watching movies on my PS3.

  • And of course there is still no party support...

  • I just want to be able to choose which episode of a TV show I want before I start watching.

  • After the last update I began to use my Viera IPTV Netflix instead. I'll have to check out this update and see how it works!

Edit: Well, from what I can tell, it's pretty much the same. I can't stand the preview system on the titles.

Oh well... Time for more Bones!
