EA Wins "Worst Company In America" Award

The website Consumerist recently held a tournament-style campaign where fans could vote for what they think is the worst company in America. Publisher Electronic Arts won.

EA beat out Bank of America for the honor in the final round of voting. "After more than 250,000 votes, Consumerist readers ultimately decided that the type of greed exhibited by EA, which is supposed to be making the world a more fun place, is worse than Bank of America's avarice, which some would argue is the entire point of operating a bank," the website said.

Consumerist began its "Worst Company in America" reader poll in 2007. Past winners include: RIAA, Countrywide Financial, AIG, Comcast, and BP.

“We’re sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco and weapons companies are all relieved they weren’t on the list this year," EA said in a statement sent to Game Informer. "We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.”

Did EA get the short end of the stick here? Is there a worse video game publisher out there? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Wow, that's hilarious given all the terrible companies out there today. (big oil, payday loans, 'most' law firms, the entire finacial institution) Had no idea gamers were such a powerful voting block!

  • This has been a long time coming for Riccitiello... the result of rushing out EA Sports titles, and not supporting their online environments.

Congratulations John. Not ONLY did you beat out all of your gaming competition, you beat out ALL of corporate America.

    Well done.
  • They definately deserved it

  • They really didn't deserve it. Sure they make a few mistakes here and there, but EA has been a better publisher in recent years. It should have been Activision.
  • Sounds about right.

  • Just a way for pissed off Mass Effect fans to "get revenge"... What the hell is the point in voting them the worst when the majority of the voters will just go and buy the next EA release anyway... ?! *sigh*
  • Time to break out the champagne!

  • "Is there a worse video game publisher out there?"

    Square Enix says, "Oh Hai!"

Oh wait, you said America. Well SE still sucks.
  • That's really funny. It's good they didn't take it too seriously.

  • I'd agree with being listed..not sure about beating out banks and the like however. But as far as video game companies go? Absolutely and BioWare has nothing to do with it. EA has been wicked for a long time now. The Sims, anyone?
  • Wow... ppl are more upset about their entertainment than being ripped off by your bank... I would think Bank of America is a bigger deal than not getting your gaming fix. Its like comparing world hunger to graffiti on walls...

  • I don't get it. A game company cant get WORST company. They make games. Maybe if it was worst game company. But I still don't have a big problem with EA.

  • I thought the list was bogus.

  • I think my vote will go with Interplay! *awaits the (fallout related) firestorm*
  • EA really deserves that award because they have done a lot of games and stuff i think that is cool you have a award

  • Lol. Well deserved EA

  • I think that EA has made quite the comeback with how good Battlefield's (both 3 and Bad Company's) online play has been. The campaigns both sucked but the Multiplayer still can have me gaming for hours. EA's newer editions for NFL and NCAA have been amazing as well. Activision deserved the award.

  • I'm extremely sure they're not

  • EA WINS
