Magic The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 Announced

Wizards of the Coast will bring its latest version of Magic the Gathering to XBox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and iPad this summer.

This new version contains an optional manual tapping of Lands cards. "Although Duels of the Planeswalkers is mostly for people who are new to Magic, it's a lot of fun for people who have been playing Magic long enough to know what's what," Wizards said.

"So for Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013, you can turn on an option to let you choose exactly which lands to tap!"

Players can expect to see new decks, boss fights, and puzzles. No other details, such as price, were revealed at this time.

  • yay!! i never played the actual card game, since its kinda expensive but i LOVE the XBLA games.
  • yay!!! another reason for me to be happy for a game i don't know

good luck, good sales, and keep on employing more people.

  • I both love and hate these games. I have the other two XBLA games and they made me realize something. Why don't they just make a single game that can be added to with all the new rules, campaigns, and decks? I would rather buy those as DLC than buying a new Arcade game every year.
  • Nice. The 2012 set is on sale this weekend on Steam.

  • I miss the first Magic: The Gathering PC game made by Microprose. That let you build your own decks. These new games are just schemes to get you to buy decks via DLC because each one sucks in its own unique way. I prefer the 4th and 5th edition cards and rules to the newer versions anyway.
  • And here I was about to buy the 2012 game. This is good news. I expect the 2013 game to be of some importance, since it will be Magic's 20th anniversary.
  • I really liked the XBLA games. I didn't like the archenemy mode in 2012, since the schemes were so overpowered at times, so I hope that this one doesn't have that problem. I'll be purchasing this when it releases.
  • Wait. Didn't we already get the 2012 release just last year? Can't we just have one base game and add on to it as time goes on? I have both the original Duels and the 2012 version. Now they're asking me to buy the 2013, as well? And I'd probably do it, too. Just because I like Magic and other CCGs.
  • Damn, just bought the 2012 one. Ah well, I suppose I'll see if this has anything that warrants me buying it when more details come out.

  • It would be really cool if you could scan in cards you already own into the game to play with. My friend with the 2012 version says that there's only so many cards you can actually play with. When I was talking to him it didn't sound like there was nearly as much customization of your deck as there should be.
  • I wish someone would teach me this stuff... I need nerd friends.
  • Finally! Ipad!

  • Nice! I got the 2011 for free last year. Finally found someone to play the game with, so I bought 2012. I'll definitely pick up the 2013 version.

  • I paid $20 for 2012, and I pumped probably 50 hours into it, just unlocking all the single player crap. Also probably put 50 into the first game. My wife hates the game, because it's boring to watch, but I'll probably be playing through all of 2013, because I just love the game. Until it gets overly lame or repetitive with the decks, I'm in. I always lamented that I never had friends to play this game with. But now I have played it to death, and all in all, I'm happy I don't have to hang out with dweebs in the back of some comic shop! That scene is just not for me. To summarize: I am thrilled to have played the first two. Open for #3!
  • Loved 2011, but still sort of wish I could make all custom decks. But i'd rather not lose in the first hand lol

  • I played the first Planeswalkers game when it was free on PSplus and thought it was pretty cool but I want to be able to build my own deck.

  • Hell yes!! I love the previous two!

  • is 2013 a part of the title?
  • I still log 3-4 hours a week in DOTP 2012, I'll be getting this when it comes out. Twice. I like dueling my son. He beats me a lot. :)

  • Hmm, I wonder what the pre-order bonus will be this year? 2011 had planeswalkers and 2012 had titans, can't wait to see what we get...
