The lights are on
Some fans were mad at Mass Effect 3's ending, and BioWare has capitulated and offered a free DLC download that offers a different ending to the game.
The change will occur through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes. A general date of "summer" has been given for the DLC, but there are no timing specifics beyond that.
“We have re-prioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player,” said Casey Hudson, the series' executive producer.
The DLC's free status expires on April 12, 2014, and it requires an internet connection (naturally) and EA Origin registration.

Wow... they gave in...
Okay, but if you mess this up to where fans start another annoying petition, I'M going to take you to the FTC for being obnoxious.
For me though, the problem is not the ending itself, but rather how we got it. It was not based on our play-through, but 3 color choices?
Anyway, will there be new extended cut or not, I'm happy with ME3 and it's nice to have BioWare listen to the fans.
Well, this is the best I had realistically hoped for, and I'm glad. There's nothing wrong with taking ramshackle nonsense and revising it to create a solid, coherent conclusion that will actually stand up against the slightest winds of thoughtful probing.
The ending will NOT be different. It is only going to get longer as they fill in a few of the giant narrative gaps that they cut open in the final moments. Hopefully, a sharp increase in intellectual rigor will underlie some of the additions so that events will make sense within the established Mass Effect world.
Can't wait for people to b*tch about wanting different cutscenes after seeing the changes and still not being happy. There's no gameplay difference, just ending cinematics being longer and more detailed. Not really a "change" so much as a "continuance."
The title of this article should not have "offers different endings", but should say offers extended closure of current endings. They have no plans on making a new ending and say so on the blog.
They're not changing the ending, they're 'clarifying' it:
To be clear, I was not asking for a new ending or clarity. I love the game, but unfortunately I love bashing the ending even more. I'm a big fan of storytelling in film and video games, so naturally when it comes to the last ten minutes or so of this game I love to rip it to shreds. I don't care about the lack of choices or the 3 colors, it's the fact that they turned the plot upside down on itself in the most awkward way possible. Adding a character like the catalyst is not "artistic", it's just a cop out, a lazy easy way to force feed the audience information that does not fit with the plot. So yeah, I would welcome an epilouge just to see how they try and elaborate further on what is flat out terrible writing. I have a feeling no one will be happy. Except me. I'll have more story to tear apart.
I am very happy with the ending of the game and am even more thrilled that they are not changing it. By extending the endings, they maintained there integrity while giving the complaining fans (Not me) what they wanted.
No it is NOT a new ending, the article partially quoted above specifically says its NOT.
The following is straight from the Bioware Forum, there are no offers for any different endings. Please read the following:
