No Further Mass Effect 3 Ending DLC Planned

BioWare today outlined its plan to bring fans closure to the ending of Mass Effect 3. The studio said the DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.

A new FAQ was posted along with today's announcement that hopefully clears up any questions for fans. "Though we remain committed and are proud of the artistic choices we made in the main game, we are aware that there are some fans who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3," BioWare said.

"The goal of the DLC is not to provide a new ending to the game, rather to offer fans additional context and answers to the end of Commander Shepard’s story."

Additionally, BioWare said it "strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise."

The extended ending DLC is free and out this summer.

  • They shouldn't be doing this.
  • Maybe this will be the answer to the so called "Reaper Indoctrination Theory"?
  • Here's my suggestion: The expanded ending DLC shows the crew onboard the Normandy after the end of the game. The camera slowly pans out, as the player's point of view seems to be swimming in a vast field of stars, then the stars start to move, to float downward like snowflakes. And as the camera pulls away, you realize that the Normandy is inside a snowglobe, the stars were snowflakes, and that the entire series was actually just the fantasy of an autistic child. Beautiful.
  • I really wouldn't expect more, especially since some people don't want to see any in the first place. I think it's fine because it's not like they're changing anything, just adding on to it so that people who are really attached to their teammates, like me, get to see if they're fine and how they're dealing with all of the ramifications of the choices. If they're alive, that is. I don't think I like the ambiguous ending *because* I care about them so much and want something concrete. So, it'll be nice to see if Tali ever gets to move into her house.
  • In other words, take it or leave it.

  • i love how they still pretend that it's just "some people who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3."

According to one poll i saw, 58% of people hated the ending, and this does not even speak for the people ranging from extremely less than satisfied to people wanting any closure whatsoever on the things they have spent three games looking forward to.

Whatever, I don't even care anymore. EA, Bioware, and Casey Hudson in particular have gone way down in my book.

  • Also, please refine that creepy kid at the end (stands beside his grandfather). because he looks like a grown man but scaled down in size.
  • I was willing to defend their choice of ending...until I ACTUALLY finished the game. I'm glad to see there will be more of an ending other than "We had no freaking idea how to end it so...crap on this"

  • Shouldn't have added to it in the first place...
  • glad to hear Bioware has found a way to address fan concerns without bending to harassment. You want more explanation? That's fine but we're not redoing what we spent time creating in the first place

  • Meh, I liked the ending
  • I still think there was a massively missed opportunity here. The closure will be great I am sure but I would of liked (and expected in the game in the first place) a final fight against harbinger possibly controlling the Normandy. I know not everyone likes boss fights but the previous 2 games had one and now we are left with Maurader Shields as the last thing we kill outside of a cinematic WTF.
  • I don't mind this, honestly.

  • I don't know how to feel about this. I guess it's OK, but I would have liked it if Bioware stuck strictly to their artistic vision. I think I am the only person on earth who thought the ending was masterful.
  • Honestly I am happy that they decided to go this route. Even though I have my dissapointments with the ending I think just expanding on the existing story is the best way for Bioware to go.

  • This is a big mistake and unfortunately it's going to set a precedent that we are going to feel ramifications from for decades. UGH...boo.
  • They should def release DLC that adds a Krogan squad member to your team, other than that I'm completely thriled with the game so far.
  • That's what the allies said after Poland, too.

  • what if people hate this ending also
  • I liked the ending, but they seem to be doing this the right way. Expanision without ret-con, that's the main thing they need to do. An additional and more lengthy conversation with the Catalyst, and a scene where Shepard is comforted by his love interest or close friend is all I want. This DLC seems like it could please both sides of the ending debate.
