The Third Penny Arcade Game Lives On

Much doubt has surrounded the next installment in Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness series, but today brings good news. A phoenix down has been used on the fallen third entry, in the form of a new developer bringing the game in a new 16-bit RPG direction.

Developer Hothead Games was originally developing Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3, but left the project to work on DeathSpank. Since then, developer Zeboyd Games has picked up the mantle. Zeboyd created old school RPG tributes Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII.

Penny Arcade says the game will be playable at PAX East, and are planning to put out the game on PC, Mac, Xbox Live Indie Games, iOS, Android, and anything else they can get their mitts on.

  • Ughhh. Part of the charm of the other two Penny Arcade Games (at least for me( was the visual style, cinematics and voice acting. This looks like all that is taking a nose dive off the nearest cliff with this entry. Granted, it may surprise me with its quality, but it seems to be missing that same spark of smexyness that made the first two so good. Time will tell I suppose.
  • Breath of Death VII was highly enjoyable, and while I've never heard of this particular series -- knowing that Zeboyd is working on it has placed it dead center on my radar.

  • I am excite. Breath of Death and Cthulhu Saves the World are both great games by any definition.

  • Sweet, 16 bit Penny arcade humor can only be good :)

  • Looks better than the other 2
  • I would love to see an 8-bit battle between a T-Rex and Fruit "Lover" Prime.

  • I honestly can't wait to play this. I actually stopped playing the first version because of the how the visuals were handled. Love Penny Arcade art, but it honestly felt like less of a game.

  • Hahahha this game looks hilarious.
