The lights are on
More and more rumors begin to surface as we move closer to E3 this coming June.
Earlier this year, reports from Kotaku said the next Xbox will use a Blu-ray drive and lock out used games to some extent. Other reports said the hardware will mirror a PowerPC CPU married to a modified ATI Southern Islands 7000 series GPU.
However, a source told MCV the next Xbox is foregoing an optical disc drive entirely and is set for launch next holiday. Additionally, reports from last month say the next PlayStation console is codenamed Orbis and is also coming next holiday.
Today, VG247 reports the next Xbox will not only use a Blu-ray drive, it also requires a constant internet connection as an anti-piracy measure. They also say Kinect will come standard with the console. The website additionally says Sony wants to launch the next PlayStation ahead of Microsoft's console.
“Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time,” the source said. “You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first.”
As for the Wii U, Nintendo is set to re-debut the console this E3. The website WiiUDaily says it obtained an internal memo from a Japanese retailer that states a potential release date for the console is November 18, 2012.
The date, assuming it's real, would line up with Nintendo's other product release windows, including the original Wii, which launched on November 19, 2006.
Both Microsoft and Sony have publicly stated there are no plans to show off new hardware at E3 2012.
If next-gen consoles REQUIRE an Internet connection, then they're going to lock out a lot of solo gamers. What a Dick move. If that's true, I feel for those poor soulds without wi-fi.
Looks like my next console purchase will be made by "which makes me least angry" and not "which seems to have the best hardware and games".
I do not want Microsoft and Sony to rush on there consoles because I would want both of the consoles hardware to be able to run the Samaritan Demo! The Samaritan Demo has been out a year and a half know, so I would think the Console Developers would do some brain storming with this!
Nvidia's GTX 680's graphic card is on the market know that could run the Samaritan Demo, GTX 680 is 530.00 dollars today, 2 years from now it will be cheaper!
With the exception of the Wii-u (I might get b/c I never picked up a Wii) I'm not getting a new console for at least two years based on the huge backlog of games I have.
I am so uninterested in new consoles right now, I am still having a great time with my PS3 as i am sure lots of people are, hopefully they see that.
New rumor: The PS4 will come out of the box with a pinata and the new xbox controllers will not use batteries, instead they will be powered by lightning bugs
I try and treat all these clashing and unconfirmed rumors as I would these ^
Lets see:
The manufacturers themselves said its not happening, but we need to watch out every time any gaming site says something about the next system with absolutely no grounds to say so.
Probably wont announce something till E3 2013, and with the basic broadband that I have (right now ok with it) looks like Im gonna have to upgrade to highspeed if the rumors are true, oh well.
We'll see, I could see MS doing something like that =/
I don't think they understand how many people have xboxs or ps3 that don't have access to reliable high-speed internet. Sales are not only going to go down just from people that are against this online only business but also all the people that literally wouldn't be able to use them..
these are crap consoles and i don't really want any of them as of now
Having a constant internet connection seems like a real deal-breaker. I guess we just have to wait until E3 this summer in order to have our suspicions confirmed.
