The lights are on
Sony today confirmed it has closed Seattle-based game studio Zipper Interactive, the creators of the SOCOM series.
Responding to rumors last week, Sony representatives sent Game Informer the following statement:
Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm the closure of Zipper Interactive, a Seattle-based internal game development studio that has been part of the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS).
The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS. Zipper has completed all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13.
Zipper had approximately 80 employees.
When will Sony get out of their mess?
Here's hoping the 80 employees can all find new jobs.
Hope that the 80 people who lost their jobs find something else soon. Was never a big fan of their games but its always sad to see a dev team go.
khrist... how many spambots does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
see ya later playas
Bye bye, Bunky.
That sucks. Unit 13 was not the best, but it was no Opreation Raccoon City. I guess since they didn't set the world on fire with their recent games, they got shutterred. that's sad.
Wow really and how funny that Christina Lee on PSN pulse 3/27 edition commenting on Unit 13 and zipper. Like nothing is wrong. :( Hopefully you guys are off to bigger and better things.
MODS, get rid of rfrtyjyuyu already!!
i wouldve been sad about them gettin closed if they hadnt screwed with socoms formula
After the mediocre reviews and sales of their last 3 projects... I can't say I'm surprised. I had my time with both MAG and SOCOM 4... and despite trying my hardest to wring fun out of them, both games were overall very "meh" Sorry Zipper...
That sucks for the people employed there.
