Sony Closes Zipper Interactive

Sony today confirmed it has closed Seattle-based game studio Zipper Interactive, the creators of the SOCOM series.

Responding to rumors last week, Sony representatives sent Game Informer the following statement:

Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm the closure of Zipper Interactive, a Seattle-based internal game development studio that has been part of the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS).

The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS. Zipper has completed all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13.

Zipper had approximately 80 employees.

  • This is actually pretty sad. Their games weren't Uncharted or God of War quality, but they were fun. Here's to hoping they can find new jobs.
  • What a shame. I loved MAG, Zipper was definitely an above average developer. It's sad to see any company, especially this one, go down the drain.
  • Well shoot.
  • GOODBYE!!!!! THANKS FOR RUINING SOCOM....
  • it..it cant be NOOOOOO (Darth vader yell) MAG was/is an amazing game may it rest in peace
  • Well, there goes a MAG 2... Anyone up for MAG?
  • aw i hate to see devs go down no matter how bad or good they may be, hopefully the ppl affected by this can get back on their feet and move on to something better.

  • awww man, I wanted MAG 2
  • good... tired of these crappy games that look like they was made for the ps1. and the game play is bad. I hope they learn from this and push themself harder.
  • My condolences go out to Zipper Interactive, MAG was a game that turned out to be a big part of my life, I made a lot of friends, had a lot of good memories. I really hope that someday a MAG 2 can be created, and that the dream can live on.
  • A new day, a new round of layoffs, :-(
  • Well thats what happens when you haven't released a good shooter game since the PS2 era. No surprise here.
  • LOL good, they did an awesome job on Socom 1&2 but after that its like they lost talent and every game since then has been crappy.
  • I hope the 80 employees has been moved to other Sony companies.
  • I feel bad for them i hope they can find some more bussiness... Why did Sony get rid of them.
