Minecraft Rakes In $80 Million

by Jim Reilly on Mar 26, 2012 at 08:08 AM

Sweden-based Mojang continues to see success with Minecraft. Of the 25 million people that downloaded the game, 5 million have purchased it.

Revenues for Minecraft since its official release in October total $80 million. Carl Manneh, Mojang’s chief executive, told the Financial Times the team has even been approached to do television shows based off the game.

“We’ve been approached by a number of high-profile Hollywood producers and asked to do TV shows,” Mr Manneh told the website. “We may do that. It’s hard when you don’t have any experience and someone comes to throw these ideas around. We have so much to focus on with just the game development and growing the business. But if the right idea comes along and the right people that we’d want to work with, we’d say why not?”

Additionally, the report says former Facebook president and Napster co-founder Sean Parker was interesting in investing in the studio last year, but was later turned down.

Mincraft hits Xbox Live Arcade May 9.
