Spector 'Desperately' Wants To Port Epic Mickey 1

Junction Point Studios boss Warren Spector still desires to port the original Epic Mickey to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. During an interview at the Game Developers Conference earlier this month, we asked Spector if he considered porting the original game to other platforms at any point during its development.

“I will tell you I desperately want to do it, and other than that I have no comment at this time," he told Game Informer. “I just think it would be cool for people to see where the story started, so we’ll see."

The sequel, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, is now coming to Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"We sold many millions of copies of [Epic Mickey] on just the Wii, and being on the Wii was great. It was a perfect way to reintroduce Mickey as a hero in video games," he added.

In 2010, Spector addressed the same question about HD ports of Epic Mickey to MTV saying it's a decision left up to Disney and that there's "nothing that would stop us from doing it."

  • I have a wii and never got around to playing this, but if they rereleased it on PS3 I would highly consider getting it for that
  • I have this game and it's just.... terrible. I can't believe that the 2nd one is a musical. I hate my life.
  • Mod
Wow, it seems to me that during development he was pretty well convinced that not porting was the way to go.
  • Have it on Wii, but I dont think I would buy it just for HD.

  • Yeah because its like that prince of persia game only with Mickey mouse in it and it has the word "Epic" in the title so us console gamers are sure to love it, right?
  • That'd be kind of cool, although the paint mechanics work naturally better for the Wii. PlaySation Move would be really cool.

  • I hope he ports it. as someperson50502 said, I didn't finish it on the Wii, but I will for the ps3.

  • I really want this too as well.

  • Hmm, I think I'd get it for Xbox 360... here's hoping!

  • It's a pretty fun game, kind of a Okami-lite game.
  • If they do a PC port I might buy it.

  • yes port it!!

  • I would consider getting this for Xbox 360. I don't really like waving a controller around with the Wii, but it could be cool in HD. I would like to see some Disney characters, its been awhile.Next time hopefully its Kingdom Hearts III.

  • I would approve of this :)

  • As a Disney fan i would love to play it, please port it spector

  • cool! i might get it.

  • Fix the camera and I'll consider it

  • I still can't see what is so good about this series. Epic Mickey 1 never looked like a really fun game, and, now, they're making Epic Mickey 2. Even if I had Epic Mickey 1, I probably wouldn't buy Epic Mickey 2 (Are they serious!? A musical!? I hate watching musical plays at school! Why would I want to play a video game that is a musical!?).
  • I love Epic Mickey, but I would not want to replay it on PS3 just in HD. If they were going to do it, they'd have to get another studio involved (perhaps Avalanche? OR Wideload?), and completely redo it. Epic Mickey on the HD Consoles should look AT LEAST as good as Sonic Generations or Ratchet & Clank Future, but they're handicapped too much by having the Wii as a lead SKU. Sure, Epic Mickey 2 is sharper, more colorful and lit slightly better, but it's still got the DNA of a Wii game.

I want Warren Spector to bust some heads at Disney and get those executives to really see the worth in taking Disney characters and worlds and adapting them correctly to the video game medium like this. Epic Mickey is a great start, but we need more games like it. Or, like Quackshot on the Genesis - they took Donald Duck and made a great game that is super original, untied to any specific Disney property, but loaded with Disney elements. Just like Epic Mickey. All the best Disney games have done that, whether they were on the NES or the Wii.

Disney Interactive should do far more stuff like this - new video game specific reboots of Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck and stuff like that. Characters who would be PERFECTLY suited to action adventure games. If anyone can convince Disney Interactive to take that direction and move away from licensed movie tie-ins, it's Spector. I think getting any new games like those into production would be better than just porting Epic Mickey to HD consoles.
  • and fix the camera while you're at it.
