Darksiders II A Wii U Launch Title

Developer Vigil Games confirmed in an interview that Darksiders II is launching on the Wii U day one.

Speaking to Digital Spy, lead designer Hayden Dalton said the Wii U version is being developed alongside the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. There's a small team dedicated to creating unique input mechanics for Nintendo's tablet-style controller.

"One of the things that we did, when we were originally going to show it off, was that you could equip stuff directly," he said. "So, for instance, I could be running along and I could click on another piece and I could put it on as I'm running through the game.

"That's huge, it's not breaking up the game in a way, I'm not going into a menu and assigning it, I'm literally just tapping as I'm playing."

Dalton added, "We're not basically heavily changing the core game to support the control system, but the control system will be an enhancement of the core game."

  • This is a Wii U title for me :)
  • I can see alot of devs using the screen on the Wii U controller to get rid of the pause menu! and thats allways nice!

  • I gotta say that's actually pretty clever use of the hardware, it's really simple but it makes a big impact.

  • its going to be like the DS, the TV for gameplay and the controller for your OPTIONS/EXTRAS menu. sounds good...on paper

  • This game is gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

  • His concept for not pausing the game sounds fantastic. I can't wait to get the Wii U.

  • ummmm...doesn't convince me to buy a Wii U.
  • This is essentially how I see the wii U working for a lot of games, it'll be like the ds/3ds lower screen, generally used for maps/ menus. Basically moving the non-essential UI so the big screen is used just for displaying the game
  • I really need to see more (hopefully at E3) before I can form a true opinion about the WiiU. Right now it just seems really gimmicky.
  • Problem is, WiiU comes after the release of DS2 doesn't it? If they came out at the same time, I'd likely pick it up for the U given the selection of launch titles are likely to be slim and managing inventory in my hands would be pretty sweet. Alas, I don't want to wait to play it however.

  • Small team on the tablet features, ey? hmm. those features seem cool, I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I see a lot of potential in what this Wii U could do,
but I'm guessing that Darksiders 2 is going to feel more like a standard port than anything, which is fine, but I bet gamers are going to need to see a multi-platform game, where the Wii U version's features are highly coveted.

Take Skyrim for example, I have the 360 version, but I look in envy at the PC gamers who have the ability to mod on their version of Skyrim.

I want to see drastic differences. Not just a little bit prettier graphics, but awesome features that wouldn't be possible on the other consoles.
  • cool beans! Now let's just see what it looks like on Wii U

  • Here's to hoping that Wii U Version is as good as the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

  • As cool as that sounds, I'm not buying an entirely new system for this game when I already have a system that will play it. Sorry Nintendo. :s
  • This is a the one I might get. It looks good but I am waiting to see the reviews and E3.

  • Awesome. Loving how Nintendo is actually allowing games like these to be released on their new consoles. Hell yeah.

  • k

  • I'll save this game for my PS3 tho I'm still getting the Wii U
