Baldur's Gate Coming To iPad This Summer

by Adam Biessener on Mar 22, 2012 at 10:00 AM

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will bring BioWare's D&D classic, its expansion pack, some new content and a whole new party member to Apple's tablet later this year. You'll be able to relive the shame of dying to kobolds in full HD glory soon.

Overhaul Games is behind the port, which boasts an "upgraded and improved" version of the Infinity Engine that the Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Fallout series all ran under the hood. It's not clear if BioWare has any connection to the project other than giving its blessing. However it shakes out, it's not like the new character is going to be able to hold a candle to Minsc anyway.

The worst part about this news: It's not Baldur's Gate II. Don't get me wrong; I adore Baldur's Gate and greet this announcement with enthusiasm, but the sequel is a superior game in all respects. Heck, you can make a case for BG II as the greatest RPG of all time.

Still, I applaud anything that increases the amount of isometric old-school Dungeons & Dragons in the world.
